Police searched Saturday for three suspects involved in a robbery that erupted in gunfire at a medical marijuana dispensary, leaving one of the gunmen fatally injured
The shootout occurred shortly after 11:30 a.m. Friday as employees and the store owner were preparing to open Natural Source and were met by five gunmen armed with semiautomatic rifles. The robbers forced the employees inside, then began taking marijuana and cash, said Lt. Dale Amaral of the Alameda County Sheriff's Department

This is why Police use caution when dealing with MJ dealers. It is controlled and traded by violent people.

Naw! They're all just harmless hippy types, too stoned to get out of their easy chairs. Never mind the pistol packin guys hangin out at the corner. MJ is the drug of pacifists. Just ask all the Dead Heads living in SF.

It is controlled and traded by violent people You'd have to blame our government for that one. Just as alcohol was once controlled and traded by violent people.

Only on Free Republic could legitimate vendors be labeled violent for defending their store against gun-toting criminals. Oh wait, that would probably happen over at DU, too. Great minds, and all that.

This is why Police use caution when dealing with MJ dealers. It is controlled and traded by violent people.Excuse me, the dealers in this case were medical pot license holders, and who possessed and used firearms for defensive purposes. The dealership was robbed by violent people. The gun-toting criminals in this case (federal law notwithstand) were armed robbers, one of which was fortunately killed in this transaction. Apparently you are so blinded by the War On Drugs that you can't even see the different between the perpetrators of a violent crime and the victims of same - one merely proves the other interchangeably.
You have a serious disconnect with reality, which is made only more frightening since you apparently have a gun and a badge too.
For soldiers who are charged with the task of killing and destroying, that's fine. But for police officers who are charged with the task of serving and protecting communities - well, I'm glad you're about a thousand miles away, although there are probably many more like you here in Colorado, unfortunately. I yearn for the forgotten days of the Peace Officer. I do not care for paramilitary assault squads, whose primary target is US citizens.

(Hence, etc.)
To: coloradan
The Substance was the impetus for the act sir! Under the current conditions and laws this contraband will always provoke people to violence to get possession of it. Hence, it possess a risk to the community. I submit that YOU are the one who is blinded by your own desire to assert that MJ in innocuous. If it became legal tomorrow I would not care one bit and maybe it should never have been made illegal but that is our lawmakers fault and not law enforcement.
You don't know me and you have no idea about my ideology. All you think you know about me is my position on the need to protect and defend law abiding citizens. Reality is what I live by everyday, your obfuscation of reality is what has predicated your ill informed position.

I couldn't agree more! You must understand that law makers are the problem not law enforcement.

I was accurately applying YOUR criterion; if you don't like the conclusion, YOU need to rethink your argument.

I respectfully disagree, my previous reply stands.

Your previous reply is, with all due respect, horse manure. YOU said "The Substance was the impetus for the act," a criterion that most certainly applies to jewelry store robberies.

The Substance was the impetus for the act Come to think of it, this is another argument for legalization: legalization would slash the price, thus the Substance would no longer be the impetus for the act of robbery.
