A home invasion on Friday night left one man dead and police trying to determine his identity. It was around 1 a.m. when the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office received a call regarding a shooting in the 14200 block of Wildwood Drive in the Lake Wildwood subdivision.
According to Lt. Darrel Conn, with the MCSO detectives division, officers arrived to find a Hispanic male lying in the yard dead from an apparent gunshot wound.
Conn said the home is owned by an elderly man and his wife, who were home when the dead man allegedly decided to walk in. He said the homeowner told officers he was awake playing video games when an unknown male holding a beer bottle walked into the home through the front door. He is described as a Hispanic male, between 30 and 35.
The homeowner confronted the man and told him to get out of his house. Conn says the intruder went outside, but remained on the premises and went to the back yard. He says the homeowner then retrieved a revolver from inside the house before going outside to look around his property. When the elderly man discovered the intruder in the backyard, a struggle ensued and the intruder was shot at least once in the chest.
Conn says the dead man had only one piece of identification on his person, which does not appear to be his. There was no immediate way of determining his identity. The homeowner will not face charges.
According to the story this is NOT a rural setting. Here is the MapQuest location for this neighborhood on Wildwood Drive in the Lake Wildwood subdivision in Houston where the crime occured.
From what we can see in the story, this drunk Mexican wasn't going to cut electricity and telephone lines, explode propane tanks, and/or torch houses. He was probably just going to fall asleep on the chaise lounge in the backyard and vomit on his shirt.
My billable rate would be worth far more than having to deal with the inevitable problems a shooting would cause. All bets would have been off if the boozer attempted to gain entry into the house again or otherwise caused problems.

Yep. Just because you can, doesn't mean you ought to.
Wrong lake Blue Jays. Try THIS.

Thanks for the clarification.
Sounds like a lawyer to me...or troll.
Gee, the *correct* location looks pretty rural to me.
Care to reconsider your last missive to me?

You gotta love TX. If that had happened in MA or NJ the old man would be sittin in a cell tonight, and the dead man's kinfolks would already be measuring his house for new carpet and drapes for when they they move in after the lawsuit.
Looks pretty rural to me on Terraserver.
Plus, since it's policed by the Sheriff's Department, it's almost certainly an unincorporated area, which by definition in Texas is "rural".
"Intruder Killed by Resident of Home"
Um...Good.
WoooHooo! Great news!
Lesson learned, "Don't mess with old men!!"...: ) <<< me
Good for the man, I'd have shot the guy too.
Troll? Give me a break. That is a pathetically insulting tactic when people can't debate a topic with a person who has thousands of FR posts over the course of three years.

He was only walking into homes that not even Black Americans would walk in to!!!
You are free to chose the best tactics for your environment. I don't know how elderly you are, but leaving your wife alone while you march around your darkened yard seeking justice doesn't seem like the best tactic.
Why not just flick on the exterior lights and invisibly decide your next move from inside your house? The couple had all the advantages without having to deal with a mess.

Just a guess but I'd be willing to bet your terraserver images are probably 8 - 10 years old. Mucho growth in the Houston SMSA within that period of time. I'll take a look at Google's new satellite stuff to see if there's anything fairly recent.
Plus, since it's policed by the Sheriff's Department, it's almost certainly an unincorporated area, which by definition in Texas is "rural".
I don't know, but I'll accept you definition. I think of rural as where I am deep in the piney woods in Tyler county. All I see is trees.....and a paved road that goes by the place ;^)
BTW, we(the neighbors and me) still leave stuff pretty much unlocked around here since it's difficult(but not impossible) to lock down tool sheds and the like. Still have an old habit from living 20+ years in the Houston area; I lock the house at night.

My Dad was in his 60's when he died. If there was an intruder in his house or property, there is no way he, (Nor I) would have waited for the cops to get there by that time he could have made off with his hard earned tools, broken into his truck/house what ever. He as I would have made sure the man left then not later!
I just hope that the dead mans family/friends don't seek revenge on these poor people... : ) <<< me
He's not required by law to assess the stage of the threat. Also, he does not know the true extent of his threat. Are there more intruders? By the way, how do you know that his wife's not a better shot than he is? This is Texas. LOL
You mean the exterior lights that invariably won't reach out far enough to see where the guy is and only serve to illuminate the blind spots in your house? Those exterior lights?
