A goldfinch ran into a window. Kids found the finch. We got it on a perch and called a rehabilitator who said, dont let it get off the perch. Gave me the name of a bird rehabilitator who hemmed and hawwed. I finally asked what he would do with the bird and he said, Wring its neck... So instead of spending the tank of gas to bring birdie down to have its neck wrung we fed and kept the bird for several months. In spring we let it go.

We saw it most of the summer.

Never ever think that wildlife experts have anything called simple compassion. This is a job to them and they are not going to brook amatures.
