The attackers barged into the victim's apartment, leading to a deadly gun battle.
(8/19/05 - HOUSTON) A southeast Houston furniture store owner says some suspects wanted his cash. But police say those suspects didn't get very far because the owner grabbed his gun and fired.
The owner of the store asked us not to identify him for his own safety. On Thursday night, a woman who has been following him around a lot on deliveries came to his apartment on 75th near Harrisburg.
Through a translator, the store owner told us, "She's been in five times, asking questions about how much it was to wire money from my in-store service."
But instead of answering the door, he ran for his gun in the bedroom. By that time, two armed men barged into his apartment.
The store owner said the men shot once. He fell to the floor and returned fire. The victim unloaded his revolver, striking and killing one of the suspects.
The second man took off along with the woman, leaving their dead accomplice behind.
The victim says they thought he had money at his apartment, but he did not. He says it's not the first time he's been a target.
"I'm always alert because two and a half years ago, I had a jewelry store," he said. "Five men robbed me, hit my son, put a pistol to my neck, and took my gun away."
But this time, he turned the tables on the would-be thieves.
Police are still looking for the second male suspect. They have the female in custody. The store owner will not be charged, police tell us, because they believe he acted in self-defense.
Hmmm.. They should have yelled "POLICE!" when breaking down the front door. Then he would had no choice but to lay down and die...
Looks like a good outcome, but boy, that's some lousy reporting.

Did the store owner / good guy have a shotgun or a revolver? Does the reporter think they are synonymous?
Sheesh.
It also says he can't speak English.
Does the robbers family get the owners house?
Hmmm...seems like something out of a logic book from school.

3. Dead dumb person
I bet some do.
Which victim?

(If what I just wrote makes you sad or angry,
Yes. . .me question exactly . .and the glaring inconsistency of this "report" makes clear the writer of the article (and editor) have no clue about firearms.
No more criminal activity for you, turd. :-)
maybe a revolving shotgun?
Jonx6: I bet some do.
Thank God he didn't have any pot in the apt.
Oh they do. It's very common in home invasion robberies out here in Cali. Your supposed to freeze rather than run and retrieve your weapon. After all they might be the "real" police executing a no-knock warrant on your house, and they would be justified gunning you down in your own home accroding to many Freepers.
I don't think this really happened. I've read NY Times as well as the CNN and MSN news sites and they never mention it.
The media is very quick to report gun use by criminals, surely evidence that gun rights help prevent crime would be on every news site right away.
Actually that's a common technique in the 332 home invasion robberies in the Pittsburgh, PA area last year.
