Police may be on the brink of finally finding the remains of Judge Joseph Crater - and possibly solving the most enduring mystery in New York City history, investigators said yesterday. A letter probably penned more than half a century ago has pinpointed a spot under the Coney Island boardwalk where Crater - last seen leaving a Times Square watering hole 75 years ago - is buried, they said.
The letter was written by an elderly woman who died of natural causes in June, they said.
Upon her death, family members opened a safe-deposit box, where they found a letter with "Do Not Open Until My Death" instructions on the envelope.

They'll find a petrified Jerry Rivers (aka Geraldo Rivera) under that there boardwalk.
Ah when the sun beats down and burns the tar up on the roof
And the streets so hot youre hoping this whole town is fireproof
Under the boardwalk
Down by the sea (oh yeah)
Im on a blanket with my baby
Thats where Ill be
And when the sun goes down
Well take a walk along the strand
And as the tide goes out
Well write I love you right there in the sand
Oh I want to go
Under the boardwalk
Down by the sea (oh yeah)
Im on a blanket with my baby
Thats where Ill be
Under the boardwalk
Under the boardwalk
Oh oh ohhhh
Under the boardwalk (yeah)
Down by the sea (oh yeah)
Im on a blanket with my baby
Thats where Ill be
And when the moon is out
And its finally cooling down
Dont have to look too far
Because my girl and I just might be found
Oh oh ohhhh
Under the boardwalk (yeah)
Down by the sea (oh yeah)
On a blanket with my baby
Thats where Ill be
Ooo Im on a blanket with my pretty baby
Just you and me
Boardwalk (I wanna take you girl under the)
Boardwalk (Im gonna take you girl under the)
Boardwalk (I wanna take you girl under the)
Boardwalk (Im gonna take you girl under the)
Boardwalk (I wanna take you girl under)
Look for the skeleton with the concrete size 11 1/2's...
That would be very weird. I can't imagine that they could have buried him deep enough - without being noticed - to escape hurricanes, tides and development over the decades. Coney Island was quite popular and busy at that time (not like the slum wasteland it became in subsequent years).
I thought he was working in a 7-11 in Michigan.
According to FNC earlier today, remains have been found under the boardwalk at Coney Island over the years and I guess they'll try to match some of those bones before they set to digging afresh.
Interesting case... the guy was nicknamed "good time Joe" ..lol... he had a showgirl mistress.
Did any relatives of Clinton have anything to do with this?
Dang! Now for some odd reason, I have the hankering to head down to Myrtle Beach!
"Judge Crater found?..."
In a crater no less.
I can't say anything about hurricanes or tides. As to developments, though, I can say one thing: Historical Preservation Societies sometimes have their uses.
That's true. Little did they know what they were preserving...
