Managing The News For Hillary's Sake

Posted at NewsBusters.org by Noel Sheppard

One hot and humid weekend this past July, America’s leading Democrats -- including some of the early favorites for their party’s 2008 presidential nomination such as Senator Hillary Clinton (D-NY), Senator Evan Bayh (D-IN), Governor Tom Vilsack (D-IA), and Governor Mark Warner (D-VA) -- gathered in Columbus, Ohio at a conference hosted by the centrist Democratic Leadership Council.

Predictably, the press had a hard time controlling its glee when Senator Clinton was announced as the point-person to lead the DLC’s new political offensive -- code name “American Dream Initiative” -- to define the party’s agenda for 2006 and 2008.

As Ron Brownstein of the Los Angeles Times put it:

"The appointment solidified the identification of Clinton, once considered a champion of the party's left, with the centrist movement that helped propel her husband to the White House in 1992. It also continued her effort, which has accelerated in recent months, to present herself as a moderate on issues such as national security, immigration and abortion."

Unfortunately, Mr. Brownstein -- much like the rest of the mainstream print media as far as I can tell -- chose not to be completely honest with his readers -- or the American public for that matter -- concerning just how far to the right Mrs. Clinton was going by affiliating herself with this organization, and, maybe most important, what was actually in this “Dream Initiative”.

Why might that be?

"Increase the size of the military..." (nudge nudge, wink wink)
"Cut excessive spending" (nudge nudge, wink wink)

Hillary knows her liberal base will realize she's just lying to sucker in the people who don't pay attention.

it certainly won’t be easy for Senator Clinton to win re-election in liberal New York in 2006, or to garner enough delegates to capture her party’s presidential nomination in 2008, if she runs on a platform to increase the size of our military, assure college access to military recruiters, cut a variety of taxes, slash highway spending 50%, and reduce the number of federal government employees.

I imagine the discussion went something like this:

So we'll just tell this huge outrageous LIE that we're moderate, or even a little conservative, and the rubes in the red states will fall for it. Of course our base, the more intelligent, enlightened and sophisticated blue state voters, will understand that we have to do this to get elected and they won't hold it against us because they know its a lie. Then, after we're back in the drivers seat, we run for the left sideline and don't look back. Those red state morons won't know what hit them.

Your tag line says it all

She may fool enough people. Someone must do something about it. Hmmmmm, how about a Hillary documentary?

Cheers me up to imagine Hillary! stalking whatever condo she's in that day shrieking 'who is this Mia T!'

Not seeing any traction from Able Danger against her, but I think it'll be usefull later in the game.
