"Nothing but Aruba"

As if anything else in the world matters. There is a pretty, white blonde woman missing.

Turn her into a minority and see how much press she gets.

Explosion Injures One In Downtown SF

POSTED: 10:08 am PDT August 19, 2005
UPDATED: 11:03 am PDT August 19, 2005

SAN FRANCISCO -- A fiery explosion from an underground utility chamber in the downtown shopping district Friday burned a woman and shattered windows at a Ralph Lauren clothing store, authorities said.

Firefighters and police evacuated several blocks around the store in the Crocker Galleria area, said fire spokesman Peter Howes.

A crew from Pacific Gas & Electric Co. was not immediately able to determine the cause of the blast in its electrical vault because a bomb squad was investigating, said company spokesman Paul Moreno. He said there was no indication of a gas leak.

Tom Demartini, a construction worker who was sitting in his truck outside the store in the heart of the city, said he heard the explosion and saw the sidewalk rise up six or seven inches.

"It sounded like a big poof, then there was a lot of smoke," Demartini said. "One woman looked like she was badly burned."

Scores of police officers and firefighters closed off the area and shut down several blocks as evacuated office workers milled about in the aftermath. The fire was quickly extinguished.

Workers in a nearby office building said the blast shook their buildings and they thought it was an earthquake. One woman said the elevator in her building stopped. Market Street is currently closed between Fifth Street and the Ferry Building.

Exactly, to compare the thread linked in post 237 is absolutely ludicrous... We knew 9/11 was serious BY POST #2! It took until post #49 before anyone even heard about this incident.

The "Holier Than Thou" contingent is getting ridiculous, I guess I need to always remember that because I wasn't a member of this forum back in 1998, I'm less Republican... Good Lord!

I think people are posting "humorous" messages a little bit prematurely.

Welcome to FR. Lighten up. We know what we mean and who we are...a good bunch of folks. Read some history, Americans are famous for their humor/satire in bad or questionable times. Enjoy!

That's what they said in 1993 when the World Trade Center was bombed. They kept to that story for at least three days; the next day's copy of the NY Times had illustrations and everything about how a transformer fire caused the explosion.

Only it wasn't true.

The source of the explosion is not known at this time but PG&E spokesman Paul Moreno confirmed that the location of the incident was in an electrical underground vault that houses transformers and other equipment.

PG&E has two crews on the scene but has not yet been able to access the underground vault, Moreno said.
