It's a wonder you're even reading this piece. I mean, it's a compliment of course -- for which I'm grateful. But it's a surprise. I was certain that most of you would be spending the day glued to your television sets.
August first was, after all, the debut of Al Gore's new television network, Current TV.
Are you still with me? Or have I already lost you to your TV rooms and TiVos? It's okay. I'd understand. The prospect of an entertainment vehicle as fresh and lively as the former vice president is awfully hard to resist.
That's why I'm sure Mr. Gore's new media effort will be every bit as successful as, say, his last presidential run.........

That's obscene.
Yes-LOL! Quite a name!
I've been reading Ms. Soupcoff's articles for some time now...always insightful and funny.
Quite a lovely young lass, too...click the link to check her pic...
Could someone more technologically inclined please post it?
Ooooh!
That's one I haven't seen!
I like it!
FReeperTV
Preferred "Gunsmoke", and don't forget "The Rifelman".
All great shows!
DirecTV now lists that channel as Google Current. Did Algore sell and not tell anyone?
That is a great photo! Every time I see it I call it "The Albert Gore Firearms Safety Course."
An alternate caption is: "Hey! Where's the shift key on this thing?"
...and law school
It would only be interesting to them if it gave up more nuclear secrets.
I can't believe how crappy Nick at Night has become the last couple of years. I work very late almost 7 days/week, so I used to turn it on for reruns of old classic shows like Cheers when I got home.
For the last year or two, NaN is just crap: the utterly lame Cosby Show (man, that thing sucks out loud), Roseanne, Freshcrap Prince - all that kind of worthless waste.
It's 100% unwatchable, and our cable system refuses to add TVLand for quality reruns.
Thank God for [adult swim] is all I've got to say. At least until [adult swim] starts up the anime junk; that's also unwatchable.
This is why I own over 400 DVDs.
is this on direct tv? If so what channel?
you know the magazine clip isnt in the rifle, right?
There's no mag in the weapon and the bolt may be open (we can't tell from this angle). If so, the weapon is safe to adjust the sling, which is what he appears to be doing.
It's a funny pic, but not exactly an indictment of Algore. We've got plenty of those, anyway.
Yeah, but I would NEVER lean over the muzzle of a firearm, even if there is no magazine in the well. If I have to look at the bore of a weapon I make sure the magazine is out and the bolt is to the rear. Before I even look down the barrel I run my pinkie into the chamber to be sure. Just a safety thing.
In any case, we're probably looking at a publicity photo made with a future political campaign in mind. He was a journalist, and I'm betting he never went beyond the perimeter.
My Grandpappy taught me all firearms are loaded always!
Even if You stood there and just unloaded the weapon and know for certain there is no ammo in that weapon, it is still loaded and you still do not point it at anything you do not intend kill or destroy.
The only time I was allowed to look down a barrel was AFTER the weapon and been disassembled to a point that it was impossible for it to fire, and even then you still considered it loaded and dangerous.
Sounds foolish ehh? Well, I have been handling firearms for over 35 years and no accidents to date. My Grandpappy knew his stuff and taught me well.
You do not lean over a automatic weapon unless you are an idiot and like to tempt fate. BTW even though the mag is out I believe that weapon can still fire if a round is chambered.
Yes, but if the mag is out, the bolt is back and the chamber is empty, there is no way in hell it's gonna fire. Disassembly not required to determine that.
I still get the willies looking down the barrel of a gun in that condition, but I'm not afraid to do so.
Uh Huh, unless of course you forgot and left a round in the chamber and you catch the bolt on something and it snaps closed (or is faulty and won't stay open) that is exactly why you treat all weapons as loaded and dangerous.
