The question is, does Beth have enough detail in her journal to torpedo Aruba? I hope so. Those first ten days are the key.

I have been thinking of a new ad campaign for Aruba.

I just think if the case is botched there are many factors that go into it. We shouldn't get confused between the Aruba system and the US system. When people post about BHT exercising her freedom of speech they are referring to a right we have in the US under our Constitution. Aruba's system is governed by the Dutch Constitution and its interpretation of freedom of speech.

The Dutch take their freedom of Speech seriously, quoting the Prime Minister"He said the Netherlands is a country in which people can freely express their opinion. "That is not just a rule. That is a cornerstone of our Constitutional State and our democracy," the Christian Democrat CDA leader said."

http://www.expatica.com/source/site_article.asp?subchannel_id=19&story_id=13500&name=Dutch+mourn+free-speech+martyr

I don't know in the long run if anything would be different if the family had acted differently, but I do think no good comes from offending the Dutch system. They have, for better or worse, less open-ness in their court system. I think the authorities are offended by the family's constant media coverage.

I think criticizing favoritism and incompetence leads to changes for the better, certainly not saying anything will not change it and will let the next victim suffer the same. I don't understand how you cannot see that.

The media doesn't care about the outcome of the case, they just care about ratings and making it as senstational as possible. I think they have duped the family into thinking it is helping.

Yes the media is chasing dollars, but they are also bringing problems to light. Look what happened with the panties on head prison scandal in the USA or Monica Lewinski, sometimes they are right sometimes they are wrond..they report, we decide..it seems to me you want to decide for all of us...something libs want to do...

I think the authorities are offended by the family's constant media coverage.

I think they are offended by the spotlight being put on their "happy island" imagine allegedly three girls date raped by Joran, several others report being sexually assaulted by others when they visited Aruba, and the two missing person cases also being reviewed..all this was brought to light by the media and natalee's disappearance..we now know Aruba is not crime free and people are forewarned. Now that is important information and may save other victims, and it may cause a clean up of Aruba. What's wrong with that? It seems to me honest sincere people would not be offended by the coverage but by the incompetence and lackadaisical actions of their government...

Top of the afternoon to you FF,
No blushing here, and I do appreciate those kind words.

Here is a syllogism that speaks volumes, "There is nothing so strong as real gentleness, and nothing so gentle as real strength."

Please excuse the double negatives in the syllogism, but that is the actual wording.

To the "Master, the negative as well as the positive."

I know that quote! I found it at a Pier One and gave it as a Mother's Day gift years ago.

What is SKKUMB, if I may ask?

BTW, I like the way you sign off with a different blurb!

More Dutch shennanigans:

DULUTH, MN -- A ship leaving the Port of Duluth-Superior on Wednesday went off course and struck a pier, narrowly missing the Aerial Lift Bridge, authorities said.

The 433-foot, Dutch-flagged Vlieborg struck the pier wall about 1:30 p.m., just before it headed under the bridge. The six-year-old freighter turned around and headed back into the harbor for inspection.

No injuries were reported.

"He was lined up straight with the ship canal," lift bridge operator Dale Mitchell said. "All of a sudden, he went port [left] and hit the wall."

Tourists and spectators were on the pier as the ship approached, apparently unaware the vessel was out of control. "We're yelling at them from the bridge to get back," Mitchell said.

Mitchell said the pier and ship sustained little visible damage above the water line, but he didn't know how much damage either sustained below the water line. The vessel was loaded with beet pellets, according to the Shipping News, a Duluth publication that tracks local shipping activity.

Ray Skelton, director of environmental and governmental affairs for the Duluth Seaway Port Authority, said it was likely a freak accident caused by a steering gear failure. Skelton said, to his knowledge, the last ship to strike the pier was the Charles M. Beeghly in the 1970s.

the judge... the judge to be.

In Aruba they think Paulus will be a judge.

Apparently it hasn't been announced in Aruba that Paulus failed his judge tests. Wonder if Anita knows.

"The Dutch take their freedom of Speech seriously, quoting the Prime Minister"He said the Netherlands is a country in which people can freely express their opinion. "This is not just a rule. That is a cornerstone of our Constitutional State and our democracy," the Christian Democrat CDA leader said."

"Dutch lawmakers have in their quest for tolerance given the courts tools to silence certain expressions of free speech. This by the way is hardly a Dutch phenomenon, in Canada you have to be careful with what you say these days as under the guise of tolerance and a respectful and unified society a number of unwitting citizens and TV-personalities have found themselves in deep trouble after exercising the right to open their mouths."

The above is from the blog "Peaktalk," written by Pieter Dorsman, a Dutchman who studied law in the Netherlands but moved to Canada in 1999. The Dutch have all kinds of p.c. hate crimes laws which take precedence over their "constitutional" right to freedom of expression. In comparison to our freedom of speech in the US Bill of Rights, what passes for the Dutch freedom despite what the Prime Minister says is laughable!

Yes, and weren't they also packed up to move out of the house they are renting? I guess their juvenile delinquent son is the only thing keeping them on that rathole. Or should I say dogpile?

True, criticizing favoritism and incompetence leads to changes for the better, ....and hopefully it will help people in the future. But I think it has become a hindrance in this particular case. Eventually the family may decide the best they can get out of the situation is to reform the Aruban/Dutch system, but initially they were hoping to recover Natalee.

Marking my place, and wanting to tell all the comedians on this thread how much they made me laugh with their image of Rita (The Mouth) Cosby squeezing thru the bars into that Aruban prison.

Keep up the good work!

I think the law degrees in Aruba are dispensed in cereal packages.
