Until then, burnings at the stake, inquisitions, arrests for violating dogma, and all that are still the province of the fanatics of the religious variety, including using force of law to outlaw the teaching of evolution in years not-too-distantly past. And you know very well that many would still like to do the same today, if they thought they could get away with it.
