You should not be surprised that science . . . is not terribly inclined to attribute unsolved mysteries to miracles.Doesn't surprise me in the least. But I question why evolutionism makes positive statements about unobserved, unrecorded history and thereby thinks it has a right to piggyback on the name of science.

Because history is not entirely unrecorded. Forensic evidence is more reliable than eyewitness evidence in many cases. It is certainly more reliable if there is a conflict between the two.
