60-year-old Sharon Huston is asking for $150,000 from Camrock Excavation.
A Salem woman is suing a local contractor, after a city water project didn't quite go as she would've liked. 60-year-old Sharon Huston is asking for $150,000 from Camrock Excavation.
The company was replacing a water main near her house, but she said it was too noisy. One morning, she went outside and demanded that a truck driver dump his gravel somewhere else. When the driver asked her to move, and she wouldn't, the driver dumped the gravel on her.
Huston said she was stuck 20 minutes before a neighbor came and shoveled her out.
Camrock has completed several other public projects and city officials said this incident has nothing to do with the quality of their work.

I'm sorry about thinking this is funny. I'm glad she didn't get hurt but I hope she gets nothing from her lawsuit. Some people in Oregon think nothing of stopping a person from doing their jobs. This is a new twist though. Usually they are trying to block logging, not some guy from unloading gravel.

One morning, she went outside and demanded that a truck driver dump his gravel somewhere else. Where was she? Not on her front porch, I suspect...

Local Busybody Stopped In Her Tracks
Gravel stops woman in her tracks
Salem resident Sharon Huston lost a face-off against a dump truck Tuesday morning and ended up trapped up to her knees in a gravel pile. Huston, 58, was trying to stop a gravel delivery to a city water project that she said had disturbed her sleep for a week.
She refused to budge from the spot where Boring-based Camrock Excavation Inc., a private contractor, needed to pile its gravel.
A Camrock supervisor told her to move. She figured that if she stayed put, they would take the pile elsewhere.
She thought wrong.
"I was talking to the man, and he got mad and told the truck to go ahead and dump. And I'm just standing there," Huston said.
The pouring gravel trapped Huston where she stood. It took a neighbor with a shovel to free her from the pile, she said.
I laughed my ass off when I read this. I do not know this lady, but I know her twins. They think that the sun shines out of their asses and expect the rest of the world to accommodate them whatever their demands.
A city spokesman said:
This is something that we find absolutely unacceptable, and we will certainly make that clear to them, he said. A city crew would not behave in this manner. He said he didnt think that Salems contract would allow the city to penalize Camrock Excavation.
Of course, this type of action should not be condoned, no matter how satisfying. The proper thing to have done was to have shut down the project and send her the bill for the the work done so far and inform her that she would be financially responsible for any future repairs due the the failure of the existing water main.
I bet she would have slept well then.

Hard to know what to think without more details. Dumping a load of gravel on top of a 60 year old woman doesn't sound like a good idea, and is definitely illegal. The company obviously didn't authorize the guy to handle things this way, so I doubt they'll end up paying, unless he has an easily traceable history of illegal or violent behavior that they should have screened for before hiring him. But if the driver has any assets of his own, I expect they're about to belong to Ms. Huston. And he's also going to be looking for his next job with an assault conviction on his record. Really, a simple call to the police would have solved the problem.

Thanks for the inside info. Sounds like they should have just called police to deal with her, though. Better to arrest her, than to delay a water project that probably affects a lot of other people.
