Muslim Group Wants No US Tax Dollars for Israeli Settlers

Muslim Group Wants No US Tax Dollars for Israeli Settlers By Randy Hall CNSNews.com Staff Writer/Editor August 16, 2005

(CNSNews.com) - An Islamic civil rights and advocacy group Tuesday called on the Bush administration to deny Israel's request for billions of American taxpayer dollars to pay for "the withdrawal of illegal settlements on Palestinian territory on Gaza."

"American taxpayers should not be forced to pay for the relocation of settlers who, supported and defended by successive Israeli governments, chose to live illegally on land that was not their own," according to a statement from the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR).

"Such funds could be better used to improve conditions for ordinary Palestinians, whose lives have been devastated by decades of brutal occupation," the group added.

The statement from CAIR came after U.S. officials said Monday that assessment teams will be sent to Israel to help determine how much new aid might be offered to develop the areas in which settlers from the Gaza Strip will be relocated.

Israel is reported to be seeking $2.2 billion in additional aid, the Muslim group stated. That request comes "despite the fact that Israel already receives billions of dollars annually from American taxpayers and has a per-capita income far exceeding that of the Palestinians."

However, Ken Jacobson, associate national director for the Anti-Defamation League, called CAIR's release "a classically destructive statement by an organization that should be using this opportunity to think positively about the future of the Palestinians.

"Instead, it's just continuing to disseminate anti-Israel propaganda," Jacobson told Cybercast News Service.

Jacobson called the resettlement of Israelis living on the Gaza Strip "a very difficult and painful process.

"One has a great deal of sympathy for the people's lives that are being overturned," he stated. "Through the governing processes, difficult decisions have been made. Israel, realizing it had no partner for peace, had to decide what was best.

"Now, Israel is showing that it's not interested in holding onto territory," Jacobson said. "And now, this is an opportunity for the Palestinians to demonstrate, if they choose to, that they're serious about living in peace, and we will see.

"The big test is coming up," he added.

"An Islamic civil rights and advocacy group"

Isn't it more accurate to say that CAIR is a terrorist-linked group? Some of their associates have been decidedly against the civil rights of non-muslims.

Actually, Israel enjoys a better situation than statehood. No taxes and all the benefits of a state. We spend too much on Israel.

However, as long as Daddy is paying for the entertainment I think Daddy should get to choose the movie.

I'm with the muslims on this but not of course for their reason.

We send far too much money to Israel.

What's wrong with that? US tax dollars should fund US citizens, not foreign ones. The cost of the settlements has been at least $50 billion dollars in the past 50 years. How much of that came from American pockets? If some Americans want to fund Israeli settlements, do it on your own dimes.

Which is exactly what we did in the early 50s (I know, I am old)

I can remember our church collecting dimes to send to Isreal to help buy and plant trees. What kind of trees? I don't know but it sounded like a noble idea at the time and I dutifully gave my dime.

This really isn't about Israel, it's about CAIR showing it's true colors for all the world to see. Note the following statement from CAIR,

"Such funds could be better used to improve conditions for ordinary Palestinians, whose lives have been devastated by decades of brutal occupation," the group added."

Wonder what happened to all that "Moderate Muslim" BS they stated spewing earlier? There are no "Moderate Muslims", but they will try to convince us Non-Muslims that there is, to lull us to sleep.

"The Devil's greatest accomplishment was convincing the world he didn't exist."

Israel and Egypt get the money under the Camp David accords, which were forced upon Israel by the Carter administration. Maybe you should stop paying Israel. You demand too much in return. First Sinai, now Gaza. What's next. I think, Israel would be better of without the $3 bln annual, which it has to repay anyway or buy US weapons for this money.

Right on!! And the grounds are that terorists that intentionally target civilians do not deserve U.S. taxpayers' support nor does any government or international agency that works with, supports or fails to condem and fails to fight such terrorists.

I've long since wanted tax dollars to STOP going to those terrorist thugs people call 'the palistinians'.... cut off all that aid and we can talk.

I actually agree with them. If the Israelis want to commit suicide let them do it on their own dime.

It is my understanding that there are about 5,000 Jewish settlers in the Gaza strip. This works out to about $440,000 per settler, or about $1.8 MILLION for each family of four. Why so much?

C.A.I.R. has no business being on American soil. Founded by HAMAS, a recognized terrorist organization, it should be given the boot for being the propaganda machine that it is.
