I don't know how day laborers would be treated under a guest worker program.

That's odd, since you seem to think a guest worker program is the answer to everyone's prayers. Doesn't sound as though you really know enough about it.

We need day laborers. Not all of us can afford to keep someone on salary year round when we only need someone a few days throughout the year. They have these things called temp agencies nowadays, and they don't just contract out secretaries and receptionists.

Whether or not a job is permanent or temporary has NOTHING to do with whether you hire an illegal or not. Why are you even presenting it as an issue?

Since I don't speak Spanish I have to hire people who charge a lot more, when I can find someone, and if they show up.

Well, you couldhire a Spanish speaker to be your H.R. person who can speak with all the illegal - oops, I mean Spanish-speaking applicants you need. Didn't you think of that? Oh yeah, you're not really running any business, you're too busy sitting around and posting here all the time.

Yeah, I was thinking the original comments could just as well have been in description of a drug deal...waiting for someone to show up, when they do, can't afford a permanent supplier, have to go with who'se available, if they'll even show...ha.
