labor hiring-hall emotions run high in Herndon - 120 sign up to speak; hearing continues tonight

HERNDON -- They came early and stayed late last night, waiting for a chance to share their feelings with the Herndon Town Council on a proposal that has deeply divided this town of 22,000 near Dulles International Airport.

Whether the town should spend taxpayer dollars to set up a hiring hall for day laborers, many of them illegal immigrants, drew an overflow crowd to Town Hall. Stoked by talk-radio hosts, more than 120 people signed up to speak at a public hearing, many of then arriving hours before the meeting was to begin.

By late last night, the public-comment period was continuing, and the council had not voted. The hearing was expected to be continued tonight.

Though Mayor Michael L. O'Reilly said "we are looking for light, not heat," emotions ran high among supporters and detractors of the plan. Some argued with one another has they waited in line. Others waved signs or played patriotic music.

...Diane Bonieskie, whose house in Sterling is adjacent to the proposed site, said she welcomes legal immigrants who are looking to build a better life. But illegal immigrants are unwelcome, she added.

"You have to take a stand somewhere, and this is it," she said.

Put a help wanted ad up at a local high school or if a college is around put some there as well. I would say that you could either match or beat the amount of money it will cost you to move.
Two guys and a van moved my three bedroom home contains 45 miles for $125. Not only did they move me but also did all of the hookups as well.
Look around, there are a lot of people that will do the job for less.

How much will it cost you if one of those illegals hurts themselves on your property and finds a lawyer?

A local moving company wanted to charge me $800 to the contents of my apartment into a storage building about 5 miles from my house. Guess how much this will cost me if I hire some illegals? About $225. Kinda tempting isn't it?

I found a local moving firm several years ago that is made up of rotating volunteer men from a local church. They charge about half what other movers charge, and ALL of the money goes to their church. Citizens and then some, IMO.

...."Ignorance Breeds Fear," ....

Standard liberal fodder. They don't have a leg to stand on, so all they can do is name-call.

Same story.

The guy so many Mexicans are slobbering over and thinking about voting for president, Lopez Obrador, sees himself cut from the same cloth as Hugo Chavez of Venezuela.

Perfect! "I'll see you your tyrant and raise you, let's see, one more!". Gives the WORLD Poker Tour a whole mew meaning.

They have kept their people so poor and ignorant for so long... Shameful! As always, thanks.
