Help fight the right-wing smear of Robert Byrd (you dastardly Freepers!)
Office of Ted Kennedy ^ | 8/16/05 | one of Kennedy's personal care assistants

Posted on 08/16/2005 9:45:44 AM PDT by pabianice

Senator Robert C. Byrd has spent 47 years serving the people of West Virginia and the nation with great skill and dedication, and he has often been a profile in courage. In recent years, for example, he has stood eloquently by his values and opposed the Iraq War, at a time when many others were silent.

Even now, as Republican smear groups circle his re-election campaign and attack his principled position, he refuses to be silent. He has encouraged us all to live up to our responsibilities as Americans, and he has helped us immensely.

Now, he needs our help, and I hope you will join me in supporting his campaign for re-election in 2006.

The National Republican Senatorial Committee is spending a significant part of its multi-million dollar war chest to blanket West Virginia in a TV assault that distorts and attacks Senator Byrd's dedication to our country.

We can't let that happen. Please make a contribution to his campaign, and help him obtain the funds he needs to fight back effectively.

Donate

The Republican Party has chosen the wrong target. Senator Byrd is a unique public servant whose proven dedication, leadership ability, hard work, and outstanding record for the people of West Virginia are legendary.

He'll stand up to the attacks against him with the same vigor and passion he has shown in the Senate for nearly five decades. But we cannot let him walk alone into this battle.

Let's all join together and help Senator Byrd respond to the smear tactics of the Republican Party:

Please donate

As Americans and as Democrats, it is our duty to protect honorable politicians like Senator Byrd from baseless attacks designed to confuse the voters of West Virginia and distract them from what is needed to make their lives better.

The Republican leadership is abusing their power to use the Senate as a weapon to enforce their ideology. And, they are trying to do the same in West Virginia by smearing Senator Byrd. We cannot let them dismantle the Senate to serve their goals - and we cannot let them attack public servants like Senator Byrd.

We have to stop the Republican defamers from silencing his powerful voice in 2006 to advance their own agenda. You can help him win a well-deserved victory in the coming campaign. Please make your contribution now:

I'm down to my last $10 million in daddy's bootlegging money. Please help!

Make sure Senator Byrd continues to serve our Party--and our country. Join me in support for this truly great American.

Thank you for doing as much as you can in this all-important effort. You'll be glad you did, and so will the country.

Sincerely,

Edward M. Kennedy

Could you imagine any Republican who'd had the most remote connection to the KKK ever getting a 'pass' from the Democrats? Ever? The liberal MSM, with its leftist agenda, permits this Orwellian duplicity go on without comment.

I live in WV, and I'm embarassed by Byrd. His unreasoning hatred for Bush colors his judgment, and he's to the point where he doesn't even care how voters perceive him because he's unassailable - he'll be reelected no matter what he does.
Nothing new - when he voted to give away the Panama Canal, the WV voters were polled and were heavily against it, he said publicly that he didn't care. Many many people said they wouldn't vote for him in the next election, but by that time, they'd forgotten it.

Byrd should have the courtesy to not seek re-election. He's in his mid-80s, for crying out loud. How long is too long? Besides, it's not like he won't have a monument or memorial named after him, considering that every landmark in WV has the name "Byrd" in it.

Even today, Robert Byrd and David Duke share an identical position on the war in Iraq.

The difference between the two is Teddy only has one bridge named after him.

Robert Byrd's re-election is anything but certain. West Virginia, a once solid dem State, has voted Republican (Bush won by 11% in 04') in the last two presidential elections. Plus, the new Energy Law strongly supports the coal industry. Although Byrd has to be favored I believe he can be defeated just as Tom Daschle was.

Great.........just sent my note to Byrd expressing my regrets at not being a member-in-good-standing with the KKK and so not able to contribute to his cause. Suggested that his buddy Drunken Teddy may be able to help out.

Robert Byrd and Edward Kennedy were walking along the beach, hand-in-hand, when they find a genie bottle. Genie pops out, ya da ya da, tells them `I'm a one-wish genie, choose carefully.'
So they go back to Teddy's condo and prepare to have homosexual sex, when--three Ku Klux Klansmen burst through the doors! One in a bright scarlet robe, another in lemon-yellow, the last, bright green. They throw a rope over a celing beam and draw the noose over Ted's head. (Byrd says to one, "Hey, I really like your robes . . ." and they tell him "Quiet, you!')
Ted says, "Er, uh, Bobbie, I think now might be a, uh, er, be a good time to use that, uh, wish."

And Byrd replied, "Too late. I already wished we both could be hung like `Long Dong Silver'."

Not a word, of course, about Byrd's besheeted past with the KKK.

"a profile in courage"

Teddy, you puke, how can these words pass your gills?

Why not? His brother paid good money for another person to write them.

Quick! Somebody find the quote from Robert Byrd, circa 1947(ish), where he says that he wouldn't fight to defend the US if he was asked to do it in a racially integrated Army!
