The director of the Louisiana ACLU compared the mindset of school prayer supporters in Tangipahoa Parish to that of the 9-11 terrorists in comments to Eyewitness News Monday.
Joe Cook, the ACLU director, made his comments when asked about classes being held in Tangipahoa Parish Monday as school system officials tried to explain to teachers and administrators what can and cant be done as far as prayers in the school room.
The ACLU director, who has made legal moves against the Tangipahoa Parish school board following some incidents of prayers being said over loudspeakers and in classrooms, said the system has done little to enforce a judges rulings.
They dont want to abide by the agreement, said Cook. They have always crossed the line of separation of church and government They believe they answer to a higher power, in my opinion which is the kind of thinking you had with the people who flew airplanes in the buildings in this country and people who did that kind of thing in London.
Cooks statement was immediately denounced by members of the Tangipahoa system.
I feel sorry for Mr. Cook and I hate that he would make a statement like that, said Superintendent Louis Joseph of the Tangipahoa Public School system. We have a lot of sincere, well-trained and educated people in this school system and to try to indict some of them with a statement like that is totally false.
Others worded their disagreement more strongly.
I think it is ludicrous that they would try to compare our battle for religious freedom and freedom of expression in our schools to terrorist-motivated attacks, said Sandra Bailey-Simmons, the Vice-President of the Tangipahoa School board.
Thats a statement from a very desperate person, who sees defeat in his future, said Reverend Louis Husser of the Christian Community Network. For him to equate Christians in Tangipahoa with terrorists is about as low as you get.
Cook defended his statement, saying that its dangerous to have people who believe they, answer to some higher religious power than the Constitution of the United States of America.
Last year federal judge Ginger Berrigan banned prayers in Tangipahoa Parish schools over loudspeakers and at school-sponsored events.
Since the ruling the ACLU has filed numerous claims that the system has violated the ruling.
The two sides have a court date next month over one such incident.
The ACLU makes my blood boil! Not that I would wish anything bad to happen to anyone, but if it did...
Maybe we could chip in and send him to Saudi Arabia (one way).
"...For him to equate Christians in Tangipahoa with terrorists is about as low as you get...."
Reverend Louis Husser is wrong. There is no telling how low Joe Cook and the ACLU can get.
I know I keep saying it, but how the ACLU continues to be tolerated by Americans just boggles my mind ---
Yes it is dangerous to have people who believe that "We hold these truths to be self-evident...all men are... endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights. "
Yeah, nothing evil ever came out of a secular state where the government was the 'higher power.' [/sarc]
Well, since they ACLU has the mindset of Marx, Lenin and Stalin, it kinda make sense...
I agree.
But, the worm has turned, I believe.
They won't be tolerated much longer.
Tax payers dollars being used to pay their wages makes my blood boil. They are the terrorist of the U.S..
That was in our Declaration of Independance, but is probably considered to be unconstitution to teach by the likes of these.
The ACLU is rapidly resembling a terrorist group, attempting to dismantle the pillars of our society one at a time, and turn this once great nation over to thugs, anarchists, and those who choose to collect rather than contribute.
Pssst! ACLU lawyer whore! Can't you read?
Tangipahoa Parish -- P A R I S H --- PARISH!

If the devil is the living flesh of evil, then here is who I think he is...
Far from appearing as a hideous demon, he is the average-looking person who walks into a room and shakes your hand with a smile. By the time he leaves, the standards of decency of everyone within that room have been lowered ever so slightly.

What makes you think that?
Seriously, I'm not trying to be a wiseass or anything. I just wonder why you think that they won't be tolerated for much longer. God knows I wouldn't miss this group at all if some unfortunate thing should happen to it.
I have to say that I'm happy to see the ACLU make these kind of exaggerated comparisons.
The left will soon marginalize themselves, and that's a good thing.
Because for decades most Americans have thought of the ACLU as a powerful branch of government that was impervious to criticism or correction.
As the ACLU has become more brazen in it's attempt to impose their socialist agenda, more and more people have concluded that it is an organization to be opposed and, when possible, defeated.
