GASTONIA, N.C. -- Reacting to the death of a North Carolina man in drunken driving accident involving an illegal immigrant, U.S. Rep. Sue Myrick on Monday unveiled a proposal that she said would make local police more responsible for tracking illegal immigrants, Myrick said.
The legislation would require all state and local law enforcement agencies to report immigration status, deportation orders and failures to appear to the FBI's National Crime Information Center database within 30 days of the incident.

Good for Ms Myrick----God,something has to be done---we are being overrun.
Perhaps this man's death was not in vain after all . .

I'm tired.
I am starting to sense that the tide is turning.
Sue Myrick on her "brilliant" immigration bill w/Keith Larson this am on www.wbt.com . Listen online!
By the way -- SOMEONE (besides me) needs to ask her why the current gov-co employment eligibility program (the lame DOJ-INS I-9 process) isn't working well enough, how it will be incorporated into the Myrick plan, and how the Myrick plan does any better than the current lame I-9 employment documentation process. . . .

However, at this juncture, I really must support her, lest the following be repeated from CA in NC:
CA: Oakland halts DUI checkpoints after Hispanic leaders complain
--SNIP:
OAKLAND, Calif. The Oakland Police Department has halted its use of D-U-I checkpoints after the city's Hispanic leaders complained that the roadblocks were ensnaring too many illegal immigrants.
D-U-I checkpoints allow police officers to demand drivers' licenses and proof of insurance. City leaders agree the roadblocks are an effective way to get drunken drivers off the streets.
But Hispanic community leaders and City Council President Ignacio De La Fuente complained that the checkpoints were making life miserable for illegal immigrants who aren't licensed to drive but otherwise obey the law.
---END SNIP
It will come. In time. If this matter is NOT addressed NOW.
Agreed -- The need is a clear and present one. The problems with Myrick's plan, however, are (at least):
1. It's a too little too late pre-campaign ploy by Myrick.
2. As a follow-up to # 1, the way the plan addresses BUSINESS and illegal immigrants is at best only smoke and mirrors -- The miserably failing I-9 plan is already in place, and Myrick's plan does little to improve upon it other than threaten fines for violators. A federal employee would need to visit each and every business in this country weekly, if not more often, to BEGIN to check-up on how employers are now supposed to document LEGAL employees (via I-9).
Though SOMETHING needs to be done, as long as leaders like Easley, etc., are letting borders, rules, and regulations to be swiss cheese or only a matter of convenience for political agendas, then the nightmare will only continue, but with even bigger bureaucracy and even more regulations that are impossible to impose (except for the occasional example that will be made).
In essence, Myrick is no better than Easley on immigration when it comes to how to handle it. At least we know where Easley stands -- Myrick is a make-believe do-gooder. . . .
