Lott Singles Out Frist, Nickles, Allbaugh For Criticism In His New Book Mon Aug 15 2005 10:05:29 ET
In his new autobiography HERDING CATS, Sen. Trent Lott accuses Sen. Bill Frist and former Sen. Don Nickles "of helping mastermind" his fall from power in 2002!
ROLL CALL reports: "While Lott continues to work with Frist on legislative matters, it is clear the Mississippi Republican remains angry with the man he describes in his book as his former 'protoge' ... As for Nickles, Lott now says he should have expected the GOP Whip to attempt to undermine his authority. Lott contends...that 'As my whip he'd made it clear he was after my job as majority leader.'"
Lott also chastises Joe Allbaugh, a confidant of President Bush's who was then director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, for allowing the media to quote him as an unnamed Bush aide calling on him to step down. 'He admitted to me that he was one of the 'Bush aides' who were leaking statements to the press that I had to go,' Lott states in his book. 'When I asked him why, he answered, "For the heck of it. I didn't mean any harm. I though it was off the record." Really -- he actually said that."
Developing...
Yep. They're slacking. :)
Did I miss anything...???
Let's try it again. One more once...with feeling.
Trent Lott is a walking compendium of what's wrong with the Senate: corruption, greed, lust, mendacity and spineless, unprincipled incompetence!
Better?
Um..yeah. This is just what the Senate's already questionable Reputation needs Trent.
Interesting note is that I was critical of what the GOP did to remove him from power. Not the removal from power, but how they used a trumped racism charge to take advantage of his weakness and do what they didn't have the guts to do at the start of the new session. Vote someone else as Majority Leader.
He should have been removed as Majority Leader, but because he gave up our power to the Democrats.
I actually felt, and probably still do, he earned some of that bitterness for the way they went about it. Trouble is that Trent won't take responsibility on himself for what he did and is using every second since to try to undermine conservative agendas and the President out of spite.
Trent was the one that made a fool of himself going on an apology circuit. And Trent is the one that sold out Conservatives time and time again. Look at Delay, Senator. See the support he has? That is what comes from doing your job, doing it well, and not sticking it to the base time and time again while you play in the gutter with the Dems. Had you shown a little more respect to the base everyone would have rallied around you and threatened the GOP if they so much as thought of removing you. But, no, you chose to align with the wrong people and it inevitably caught up to you.
And no one is mistaken as to what you are doing here. YOU want Frist's job. If you can't get it, you want santorum's job and hell...I wouldn't be surprised if you were working to try and defeat him in PENN to get it.
Any sympathy I had for you based on how your removal came about is LONG gone Senator. Trite attcks like this only confirm, better or worse of the methods used, we're better off without you there.
I don't like Lott or Frist!
They both stink!
I think you've got it!
He needs to work on his hair-do and get out the way.
He had his chance and blew it.
Hey Trent, you are the one who stepped down. Nobody MADE you do it. You did it all on your own. Sounds like a schoolyard quarrel and you are telling the principal that everybody is picking on me.
Here but I am too tired to argue with these
dimwits about Trent Lott. And besides in some cases
they have point.
Give me an S
Give me a T
Give me an F
Give me a U
I will never, ever forget that quote....
and I have seen evidence of his bitterness over losing his Majority Leader job...he didn't need to write a book to let us know.
What is it with people that they write a tell-all book while still in the job where they have to work with the people that they SLAM???? NOT SMART...IMHO!
I know that I have been really disappointed that Nickels left the Senate...and I had heard that he retired because he didn't get Lott's job...
Nickles replacement has been so awesome though!
Oh, I like Mitch McConnell...it is FRist that I am disappointed in...
If Nickels could have moved up to Majority Leader, with McConnell as Whip...dang, just think how different the Senate would be!
I was talking about Dr. Coburn.
LOL--sorry, I thought you meant the Majority Leader..
Yes, you are correct about Sen. Coburn, and he is picking up where Nickels left off...complaining about the spending!!
He is not going to make many friends in the Senate, but the citizens of America will love him!!!
I believe that Lott is nuts.
