Cypriot police raid Helios Airways offices
NICOSIA (Reuters) - Cypriot police on Monday raided the Nicosia offices of Helios Airways, owners of the Boeing 737 that crashed in Greece a day earlier killing all 121 people on board, a government spokesman said.
"After allegations brought by the Communications and Works Minister and the chief of police, the attorney general issued search warrants for the central offices of Helios to collect documents and other evidence that might be useful in a possible criminal investigation," spokesman Marios Karoyan told Reuters.
Cypriot communications and works minister Haris Thrasou also oversees transport, including civil aviation.
Attorney General Petros Clerides told Reuters the raids were in progress. "The search warrants have been executed," he said.
Helios, Cyprus's first private carrier, established in 1999, mainly flies holiday makers to Athens, Greek islands, Dublin, Sofia, Warsaw, Prague, Strasbourg and several British airports using Boeing B737 aircraft.
Libra Holidays Group, one of Britain's leading independent holiday tour operators, bought Helios in November 2004.
They're in the business of making money, can't have pesky saftey issues floating around.
Who are the polics and what are they doing?
Sorry. Couldn't resist.
IOW, this was a "preservation" raid.
Things that make you go "Hmmmnnn..."
Looks like Admiralty law doesn't apply.
What are the allegations?
Plane crashes aren't good for business. Look at Pan Am. If they skimped on safety for the sake of $$$, then they are poor businessmen.
They're stated in a number of the previous threads but in summation it seems to be that for this airline there have been repeated previous complaints by passengers on this airline about circulation problems in the cabin, it being very cold, etc.
From what I heard on FOX there have been some allegations that complaints about the safety of that type of plane may have been ignored.
/extreme sarcasm
I dont think PanAM had an inkling a bunch of savages from Libya were going to take down their plane over Lockerbie!
At least...
Skimping on safety
and having an accident
isn't bad business
in the modern world,
it just makes the businessmen
unlucky gamblers.
....................hitlery calling the 'ACLU'......LOL
Hey maestro, what was that brainwashing hypnotic rant you did a couple days ago...it was hilarious. It was something about libs and at the end you said move on...nothing to see here.
Could you freepmail it to me? Please.....?
On Cyprus, several callers to radio and TV programs said they experienced severe air-conditioning problems on Helios jets in recent months, AP reported.
Some callers said the cabin was freezing and the crew provided blankets, while others said it became unbearably hot.
Refusing to fly
Greek state television quoted the Cyprus transport minister as saying the plane had decompression problems in the past. But a Helios representative said the plane had "no problems and was serviced just last week," according to AP.

I'm a continuous,....'Senior Moment'.....
:-)
Oh, I didn't mean to suggest that Pan Am was at fault, but they are representative of plane crashes being bad for business.
