SHOTS FIRED! (Property owner reported to have fired gun in air near Camp Cindy)
Lone Star Iconoclast ^ | 10:15am (Central) August 14, 2005 | Deborah Mathews - reporting for The Iconoclast

Posted on 08/14/2005 9:36:45 AM PDT by tgslTakoma

Camp Casey is becoming very organized, with how-to signs placed about. Ann Wright said, "That's what we are trying to do."

Let me read you the schedule posted on a tree: "9:15 camp meeting; 10 a.m. inter-faith service, 10:30 a.m., "Food-Not-Bombs Breakfast at Peace House," and....

"Wait! Someone is firing a gun. (pause). He fired it into the air about five times. He appears to be a local inside the fence line on private property. Now he has thrown what looks like a shotgun into the front seat of a pickup, and he's stomping off out of sight. I wonder where he went.

"Now he's coming back out. I'm out here standing on the road. He's got a no parking sign in his hand, walking toward his fence. I'm going to go try to talk to him. I've got to hang up."

(three minutes later)

I went over and talked to the man. He is Larry Mattlage, who says he is on his property and just posted a no-parking sign.

"We're going to start doing our war and it's going to be underneath the law," he told me. "Whatever it takes. So y'all go find another place to do whatever you do. 'Cause this is our front yard and back yard."

I asked, "Do you mean the protestors?"

Wait.....now there's some Secret Service and cops. I'm going to get closer to hear what they're saying. People in bullet-proof vests are here now. Two Secret Service agents are now walking up his driveway towards his house, with Mr. Mattlage. A member of the Sheriff's Department has arrived. Mr. Mattlage is waving his arms now. All of them are now walking back this way.

Now they are between the lane and the house. He's at the fence now. Let me record what they are saying. I'll call right back.

I loved it when he said he was just shooting at that bird and that the reporter must have missed it. And no, he did not sound intimidated at all.

That is what I was think as well. Even if there is a Porta Potty available people will still use the woods and bushes for bathrooms. I used to live in the country and I have seen people in my woods. I would be fed up if I lived in Crawford and my shotgun would be handy too.

We stopped in Crawford and saw the road that led to President Bush's property. I remember it as a very narrow road with not much roadside to camp on. Someone who has been there could correct me if I am wrong.

I was minding my own business on my trusty PC. My liberal spouse had on CNN. I caught Mr Mattlage's comments. I quickly analysed the interviewer of this right grand lad. (old country praise). A youngish voice, oh so decent and reasonable was the interviewer. Now it can be taken two ways.

(1) The interviewer was giving Mr Mattlage his chance to put his view. (2) He was half hoping his subject would get carried away and ruin his argument. Ok, the jury may be out on that but..... The late Peter Jennings addressed a graduation previously . Jennings said he thought America and the ordinary people were it's strength. He recomended travelling Greyhound- or the seeing the Blue Highways as described by the William Least Heat Moon book.

Too late Petah, wished (sincerely)you could have seen the real America you eulogised. It is Mr Mattlage and his kind.

Tents are almost on the road surface.... If'n some good ol' boy came by in his off roader with the hammer down I suspect it would suck the tent flaps away. see them at the link below

Ranch owner Larry Mattlage, whose property sits between the ranch of U.S. President George W. Bush and a camp set up by a group of anti-war protesters, posts a no parking sign against his fence to ward off demonstrators in Crawford, Texas, August 14, 2005. Thanks for posting the link you did. My dialup took 20 minutes to load it, but it was worth it! It was only audio to me; was there video, too? I loved hearing his TX accent!

If anybody hasn't had to chance to catch Larry being interviewed, they are about to show it again on CNN. God love him!

Hah! Wait til you get hit by the whole swarm of them.

A swarm is something I have no intention of encountering. I must've come across some sort of advance scout, or got the heck out of there before his pals showed up. I had a bump there for a week. No fun. I almost feel sorry for Lefty if they've encountered these things. Almost.

Did you realize that fire ants are not native to the US? They are illegal aliens also.

No. What planet are they from? That bite is not of this earth.

Nah, it was just audio. I could have decreased the quality to lower to download size, but it probably would have been a little more difficult to understand what was being said.
