I have seen all sorts of confusions among many people in your country. I have met Poms who hate what Britain had done now and are anti-US, I have also seen some inconsistent types who admire what the historical British Empire achieved, and then turn around and bash "US is imperialist and is bad!", some who are trying to use the European Union and hijack Europe into "British Empire Mark II", and some who are anti-US simply because Britain no longer rules the waves as in Joseph Chamberlain's times.
Conversely, I have also met a variety of Britons who support Bush with different background - anti-monarchist liberals (I mean classical liberals and not leftists), Thatcherite conservatives, and mugged-by-reality moderate leftists. My apologies for not raising my aim at which precise groups, but my original post was aimed at those "inconsistent poeple".
About this country, it depends on how political fashions in the mother country goes. The British Left basically controls the ideological spectrums here, courtesy of ties with the BBC and Kiwis who had lived in Britain either for the OE or jobs. We can't do too much about it unfortunately.
