In the ordinary course of events, a conservative columnist frequently finds himself defending American business, or this or that aspect of it, against attacks from the left. There is something about liberals, and the left generally, that makes them instinctively hostile to businessmen. It probably goes back to socialism's preference for government management of economic affairs.
In any case, liberals are forever attacking companies like Wal-Mart, even though these enterprises are selling their wares to the public at huge discounts. And they make life as miserable as possible for employers in general, without reflecting that, without employers, there would be no such thing as employees.

Even though I despise it, I understand the position of the Republicans. The liberal position, however, makes me sick. In supporting large scale immigration, legal and illegal, they only hurt their most loyal voters, those being African Americans, as well as legal Hispanic voters.
Government period.
So, according to WorldNutDaily, if one supports law and order and sees open borders during "war time" as a threat, one is a "leftist"; i.e. evil?
What BS
Follow the money. The problem is caused by whomever is profiting by it. The actual illegals are just a symptom of a systemic disorder.
Ding Ding Ding. We have a winner.
I agree, but that doesn't change the fact that our Republican President and Republican controlled Congress can and should be doing something to stop this. Go after the employers!
This issue will cause a tremendous rift in our party and our country unless our leaders start listening to us. 80% of the country wants a serious crackdown on illegals, yet they do nothing. I have been both surprised and pleased by the tough talk from DeLay recently. Let's get behind him and encourage him to follow through on his promises. When the GOP retained control in 2004, we all thought that it signaled a conservative majority for years to come, and Bush would be the one to do it. Yet, here we stand almost one year later, and Bush's position on illegal immigration threatens to destroy the party, not further it.
My newest theory is that illegal immigration is a natural effect of minimum wage laws that artificially inflate the cost of labor and create a black market to circumvent those costs.
Get rid of the minimum wage and maybe the illegal problem would go home.
I also think the FICA taxes and other taxes/regulations regarding employing people officially is part of the problem. Government interference in the labor market has contributed to the high labor costs that make illegal labor so attractive relative to the risks and costs of legal labor.
We can't. They're going out of their way to hire the cheapest labor possible to provide us with the cheapest prices for goods and services on this planet.
I suggest we mail Dub'ya's letter back to him.
Whomever is in charge of the places the illegal immigrants risk all to flee?
Teach them English, civilize them, westernize them, instill in them the idea that "their country" could some day be a US state, turn them into an unstoppable army and send them back home to set things right.
"They're going out of their way to hire the cheapest labor possible to provide us with the cheapest prices for goods and services on this planet."
Every one of them belongs in prison!
" instill in them the idea that "their country" could some day be a US state"
Why don't you take them in Australia.
As far as a state, NO WAY do we want that crappy nation filled with human garbage, just catch them and deport them, imprison their employers, including homeowners that hire them on the street corner and let their fines pay for the enforcement and deportation.
Too much effort? Not interested in long term investments? Kill them.
Once again..no more votes for republicans unless they do something concrete about immigration this term.
I want them to know that their conservative core is more important than some latin american swing vote.
This is the number one issue of the next two elections..congress and president.
Write you elected officials now..want my vote?

Every one of them deserves a rope around his neck. But it will never happen, especially with Dubya in the White House.
Lets see...the businesses are hirig the illegals or else why would so many come here?
That's right, free(tax payer-funded) bennies.
"Thus, Americans hustle to keep their jobs which means working much longer than 8 hours a day with no overtime, having a skyrocketing divorce record"
Well jackass, I put in 40 years of 12/6/52 without paying myself overtime and never took a salary higher than I paid my superintendants and have been married 46 years. I still work at least 8 hours a day and 7 days a week if I have the work and expect to for at least another 12 years until i'm 80. And yes I do construction work and the stinking illegals have reduced what I can earn to where i'm still making what I did 25 years ago.
Salty, what you are describing is a nead for the NRST or Fair Tax. Nothing would be withheld from your paycheck and prices would go down rather than up. Instead of losing 1/3 of your pay you would keep it all. A sales tax would be added to all NEW goods and services and would replace what is now the income tax, which would be eliminated, and SS and Medicare taxes. Join one of the many threads on the Fir Tax and learn about it. It does exactly what you are describing.
It would also collect taxes from the illegals and the criminals like drug dealers, prostitutes, gamblers, etc., who are not now paying into the system. It would tax them each time they bought a new item or service. That would take care of SS nicely without burdening your paycheck.
