PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: While the President, First Lady and the dogs were relaxing at their ranch today two pieces of blog-related news surfaced having nothing to do with his stance on speaking with Iraq War protesters, or his polices, or whether or not Judge Roberts will be confirmed. This news is considerably less political.
You see, The President is now doing one of the hippest things on the planet -- the President is podcasting!
In the meantime, a hoax claiming that the President and a number of his administration officials had been indicted became the #1 search term on the blog indexing service Technorati today. This is an example of a new form of political war -- the netwar -- and fellow FReepers should be aware of the ease with which such disinformation can be cooked up and spread. There is no real news, but activists are able to perform culture disinformation and jamming activities which exploit inherent vulnerabilities in search engines.
THE WEEK AHEAD: There were only a few WH press briefings this week, and none yesterday. So no scheduling info is available today.

The recent violence in Iraq is a grim reminder of the brutal nature of the enemy we face in the war on terror. Our mission in Iraq is tough because the enemy understands the stakes. The terrorists know that a free Iraq in the heart of the Middle East will be a crippling blow to their hateful ideology. And that is why our work in Iraq is a vital part of the war on terror we're waging around the world.
This war on terror arrived on our shores on September the 11th, 2001. Since that day, the terrorists have continued to kill -- in Madrid, Istanbul, Jakarta, Casablanca, Riyadh, Bali, Baghdad, London, and elsewhere. The enemy remains determined to do more harm. The terrorists kill indiscriminately, but with a clear purpose -- they're trying to shake our will. They want to force free nations to retreat so they can topple governments across the Middle East, establish Taliban-like regimes in their place, and turn the Middle East into a launching pad for attacks against free people.
The terrorists cannot defeat us on the battlefield. The only way they can win is if we lose our nerve. That will not happen on my watch. Withdrawing our troops from Iraq prematurely would betray the Iraqi people, and would cause others to question America's commitment to spreading freedom and winning the war on terror. So we will honor the fallen by completing the mission for which they gave their lives, and by doing so we will ensure that freedom and peace prevail.

For those of us who have been appalled by the anti-American movies put out by Hollywood, this is a chance to support a good one. My husband and I drove 40 miles to see it and were glad we had.
Miramax had to go bankrupt before this movie would be taken off the shelf for us to see, despite being done.
L.A. Times is panning it. That in itself is a good recommendation.
The most poignant of his remarks (and it is a fascinating memoir; he served for all but about six months of the whole war, being about 16 when he enlisted) is toward the end, when he said that he always fulfilled his duty and obligations to his country, even if she did not fulfill all hers to him, but, he wrote, "I forgive her, and hope she will do better in future."
No matter what a good person does, there will be those to speak against it, even try to crush it. W has that same forittude and personal sense of knowing he is fulfilling his duty, even if some among us are trying to destroy the works he is building. They are building castles in the air and will find themselves unable to support them in the long run, however. W is building on the Rock.

It's just wonderful out here; hot, bright, but not too hot; gorgeous. I was telling homemom yesterday that I have never found a place on earth where I feel so much tranquility as this home, this piece of land, this view of the water.
But I am pretty wiped out and haven't gotten much done, I think I'm depressurizing after the move (at least my body is lol).
The photos that you have posted tonight are simply AWESOME . . . they underscore the incredible HEART that our president has for people -- young/old, black/white, able/disabled, and, of course, ALL members of our military!!
Rational people love and appreciate our president, as indicated by the hundreds who attended the various pro-troop/pro-President Bush rallies in Crawford today!

Thanks for the heads up on "The Raid." I've seen very brief ads on TV but hadn't even been able to catch which war it was concerning.
I didn't know that about Miramax.
I doubt it will be released in U.K.
The Raid is about a rescue mission to get 500 POW survivors of the Bataan Death March away from the Japanese in the last year of the war before the Japanese can kill them during their retreat from the Philippines.
The facts about the Japanese military that it brings to light wouldn't be considered P.C. nowadays.
Hubby and I saw "The Great Raid" last evening -- LOVED IT!
It will make you laugh, it will make you cry, but most importantly, IT WILL MAKE YOU PROUD!!
[FYI: The film is NOT standard movie fare; it's really more like an historical documentary!]
