It's a wind centrifuge. Venturi (whirlpool) effect separates heavy material from light in a wind tunnel effect. Light goes out the top, Heavy drops out of the bottom. Very often found in milling and granary/feed-seed store operations.

Sorry I didn't examine close enough first time, these look as if they use liquid instead of wind. Same principle.
