There are a lot of potential remedies Denver head coach Mike Shanahan and defensive coordinator Larry Coyer might have conjured up after the wild-card defeats in which Manning toasted the Broncos for 835 yards, nine touchdown passes and 90 points. In a bit of a twist, they opted not to refurbish the biggest area of defensive deficiency, clearly the secondary, but to remake its one position of strength.
And so a linebacker corps already plenty quick enough in '04 now looks likely to function in 2005 at something approximating warp speed. In middle linebacker Al Wilson, weakside defender Ian Gold and strongside starter D.J. Williams, the Broncos feature three guys who not only can run to the ball but can flat-out run, period.

Orange and blue ping.
"Are your men on the right pills, Klytus?"
Denver has always fielded fairly fast defenses. I for one like some speed on defense, but alot more power, especially on the front 7.
I love a big massive power front four, and lightening fast linebackers. Hmmm..maybe I should be a defensive coach for my beloved Vikings....say they did a good job of whupping KC tonite!
Speed vs mass. I recall from physics 101 that KE = 1/2mv^2. In that case always choose speed over weight.
KE = Kenetic Energy
Speed is important but you also need a linebacker who can take on an offensive tackle and defeat him to make a tackle. Some of the speedy guys get swallowed up by a big offensive linemen or even a fullback. The best linebackers aren't always the biggest, fastest, or strongest but they have excellent football instincts and a nose for the ball.
I thought it was still baseball season, go Red Sox!
Go Yankees ;-)
#23 Plano (Texas) Yankees.
speed is very important in linebackers...but the D-Line has to be big and control the line...Denver's D-Line has been suspect the past couple of years (I know from experience...former NFL Offensive Lineman...'Vanity')
Big lineman with speedy (and powerful) arms are especially effective.
Do the Bears quarterbacks have the SHITTIEST luck in the NFL??? (Rex grossman out 3-4 months with @#$%&*! ankle injury)
They are CURSED just like the Cubbies.
I know Schilling got shelled for a coupla dingers while closing tonight, but I just can't wait 'til he's back in the rotation.
With this kind of bat support, what does Schilling (or any other Red Sox pitcher) care?
He's got the likes of Ortiz, Manny, Varitek, Damon, almost the whole bleeping roster is on fire...
You gotta admit these guys are unbeliebable! And the best part is that they're so "loosey-goosey" about it.
It's like they don't care, they're just out there having fun. Even if I can't stand him, "Manny being Manny" adds to the mix. At least he's not a surly Carl Everett.
I played on a football team like that in HS, went 6-1-0, and it was really fun. It was all due to the best coach I ever had. Somehow, he could make your body fulfill those promises your mind had made. We were all pretty beat up at the end of the season, but we "done good".
The Red Sox are about the only thing I don't hate about living in this friggin' liberal Boston hellhole.
Come back to reality. The Steelers have the fastest linebackers around. We can't defend the long ball, but we'll stuff the run down your throAT...
Go Pats
