Rendell honors Pa. guardsmen killed in Iraq

With tears in his eyes, Gov. Ed Rendell yesterday ordered state flags in Pennsylvania to be flown at half staff until Sept. 11 to honor Pennsylvania Army National Guardsmen killed in Iraq.

Five guardsmen were killed in two separate incidents in Iraq Tuesday, and two were killed Saturday. Six of the seven were from the same company, the Philadelphia-based A Company of the 1st Battalion, 111th Infantry Regiment.

"They were police officers, firefighters and youth counselors," the governor said at a news conference in Harrisburg. "They were husbands, fathers, and beloved sons. They were young and middle aged, black and white.

"Their deaths bring home the crushing reality of war to Pennsylvanians. It shows there is a price to pay for what we are doing to fight terrorism."

Brig. Gen. Jerry Beck, a deputy commander of the 28th Division, to which the 111th Infantry belongs, announced at a news conference in Philadelphia the deaths of Spcs. Gennaro Pellegrini, 31, and Francis Straub Jr., 24, both of Philadelphia; and Pfcs. John Kulick, 35, of Jenkintown, and Nathaniel Detample, 19, of Morrisville.

Rendell isn't honoring anyone, he's grandstanding with the deaths feigning remorse and sorrow for his own political gain since he's running for re-election in '06.

If he gave a crap about the troops he wouldn't have tried to discount thier votes in the 2000 and 2004 elections.

Why doesn't he send his lieutenant governor to some more funerals to insult the families of the deceased by saying the government doesn't support the war?

If he gave a crap about the troops he would have persuaded Lt. Governor Catherine Baker Knoll to resign after her shameful pandering and politicing at a soldier's Funeral last month.

What a load of crap. Fast eddie is tryng to make up for the offensive conduct of katherine baker knoll at the soldier's funeral a few weeks ago. He is a proud atheist and was at the forefront of the attempt to have military ballots thrown out in the 2000 election.

I just hope that most of the red County Pennsylvanians haven't forgotten it before November of 2006...and that they outnumber the fraudulent blue ballots that will be stuffed like a Philly cheesesteak.

I wonder how many business cards he handed out.Probably thinks that's a real neat trick Knoll taught him.

Both he and Knoll are a disgrace to the Commonwealth.I know vets here in southwestern Pa.,myself included, who would like to see those two...(well,I better not say it).

We here in S.E. Pennsylvania know fast eddie well as we've been exposed to his activities for far too long now.

This man is a very good actor and a vicious partisan DemoncRat. Lest we forget his defense of Clintoon while he was chairman of the DNC. His despicable actions regarding felon and overseas military votes revealed the true nature of this political hack.

Rendell is just another lawyer that can't be trusted.
