I had (still have somewhere) the BILLBOARD BOOK OF #1 HITS. Got it when I was back in HS--the story of every #1 rcok and roll song from "Rock Around the Clock" (considered the first song of the rock era) to 1985's "We Are The World". 30 years worth; I pored over that book. :)
