Three Irish women are taking Ireland to the European Court of Human Rights over their country's laws on abortion.
The Irish Family Planning Association is supporting the case of the women, who have all had abortions in the UK within the past year.
The association estimates that 6,000 Irish women travel to the UK each year to have abortions.
Under Irish law, abortion remains illegal unless the mother's life would be in real danger without it.
The Irish Family Planning Association says it is campaigning to make abortion safe and legal in Ireland, and it will meet political leaders to discuss the matter over the next few weeks.
The three women, who have not been named, claim Ireland's laws violate articles within the European Convention on Human Rights, and that Irish law on abortion "jeopardises their health and well-being".
The campaign was criticised by groups opposed to abortion in what is a predominantly Roman Catholic country.
There have been some calls for a fresh referendum aimed at preventing the government from changing the law on abortion, although the government says it has no plans to introduce any legislation on what is a highly sensitive issue.
Why not? I'm sure they're very proud of what they did. They should have their faces plastered on the front page of every newspaper.
"It's up to the European Court to decide if the Irish Constitution is in breach of the European Convention on Human Rights"
Is it just me, or is there something arseways about that statement?
We've all heard about the "legal" party. We know all the arguments. So let's focus on "safe". Do tell us, ladies, what you are going to do to make abortion "safe" (unless it's just a throwaway line).
Abortion ping, and let me know if I've left anyone out!
Those women obviously couldn't care less for the human rights of unborn babies!
Exactly - if they are proud, let them tell us who the are!!
Ya, it's never safe for the unborn child!!!!
Jeez, Irish!
Have they no shame?
And what of the innocent lives they've selfishly snuffed out? They should have a say!
GAH! *thunk*
After almost 33 years, abortion is not safe in the United States. Dogs and cats get better care in a vet clinic in the US than girl/woman here.
Is Irish Family Planning Association another word for Satan in Ireland?
Hello Monkey! Nice to meet ya again! You are right; those selfish bitches have no shame - my G-d, they think they are actually right!!!!
Please FreepMail me if you want on or off my Pro-Life Ping List.
How did you come to have the abortion(s) and who was involved?
I was expecting my 3rd child, fear of financial problems. My other 2 were in day care and I worked. I was married but we both worked and were trying to save for a house, etc. My husband didnt want me to have an abortion. I was stubborn and thought that it would make life easier on everyone. I went to the clinic. They told me that it was common for women (career women) to have abortions and that I would be fine, that it would not be hard.
How would you describe your abortion(s)?
Very painful. I was very misinformed about the after effects, the emotional and physical complications. I was deceived by all I had read or heard in my medical referrals to have an abortion. It was a rough procedure. I bled a lot there and after I got home. I was hurried out the door shortly afterward. I knew as soon as my uterus was violated that I had participated in a murder. My spirit fragmented and the evil that was in that clinic came in all around me. I lost my mind.
How did your abortion(s) affect you and others?
I had a severe emotional collapse. I was thinking of killing myself. I cried every day for a year or more. I did not get along with anyone too well. I was not a very good mother. I had marriage problems that led to a divorce. I felt like I hated the world. I suffered nightmares, bad thoughts while awake. Every time the vacuum was used I thought about how my baby died. I wanted another baby. I did get pregnant approximately one year after the abortion and had a replacement baby. I grieved for years.
Please describe what you have done to deal with your abortion(s), and whether it helped.
I got close to God, prayed, asked him to help me. I started going to a church that deals with broken people, they prayed for and counseled me till I got my life back together. The early years I plain suffered and lived from day to day unhappy even after I had another baby. I called a hot line but it was not manned by Christians. It was secular and the advice they gave me was worthless. They said just to forget I ever had an abortion.
How do you think your abortion(s) changed your life?
It totally had my life wrecked for close to 8 years. Thank God, I got the right kind of help! I am now involved in a ministry that reaches out to the post-abortion victim.
As I said at post #8, abortion is never safe for the unborn child!! Dear L-rd those women are just evil!!!
How can murder of an innocent person be "right"?
I'd like to talk to those witches and tell them what damage they are doing to their immortal souls...but then, I ain't Catholic...on the other hand...maybe that's a good reason, huh?
I've looked for you Irish, but you've been late and I've been early. Or vice versa! LOL! Still, I think of you whenever I pull up a photo of the Emerald Isle.
(Have you checked out my bio page in the last two weeks? I added some stuff to it.)
I was expecting my 3rd child, fear of financial problems.
Convenience!
And the title says it all:
Every time the vacuum was used I thought about how my baby died
Only it's 25 times more powerful than a hoover!
There is nothing safe about abortion. Nothing.
Dang...if I didn't need my Hoover I'd throw the sucker out...pun intended...:o[
Abortion: One Dead and One Wounded
During 2004, I joined a pro-life group that drove trucks around the US with the words Fetus, Choice, and pictures of dead babies at 6-10 weeks. I usually could see the truck ahead of me, so I would always be looking at a dead baby during the day I did this. That was not fun.
But I have no regrets. Many of the women are victims as well.
What convinced me that this was working so well was the expression of one of the women I saw staring at a truck. Her head to seem to shake back and forth saying: "No. No. No.". Then her expression changed to one of resignation of what the truth really was: the image on the truck.
... And that abortion results in the death of the baby.
I don't disagree about the murder of the innocent babies. But the girls/women are often hurt as well -- trying to fix their problem.
