Television talk show star Ellen DeGeneres has been picked to host the upcoming Primetime Emmy Awards, U.S. TV's top honors, reprising her widely praised performance in 2001 following the September 11 attacks.
"You know me, any excuse to put on a dress," DeGeneres joked in a statement from the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, which puts on the show.
The Emmys are held each year in September and honor the best in U.S. TV programs and performances as well as kick off a new season of shows headed for the airwaves.
TV stars attend in glamorous gowns and tuxedos, dripping in diamonds and other fine jewelry. DeGeneres prefers pants.
In 2001, the telecast was delayed twice before finally airing in early November. DeGeneres walked a fine line between comedy and seriousness throughout the program, which featured displays of patriotism such as a rendition of "America the Beautiful" mixed with DeGeneres' making jokes.
Her deft performance earned DeGeneres a standing ovation when the Emmys ended that night.
The 57th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards are scheduled to take place on September 18, and will air on the CBS television network.
CBS is a unit of Viacom Inc..
Isn't it odd how a tiny, tiny minority of 2% has managed to take over the media?
Gotta do something to help sink the ratings. Although they are in the toilet, they are still too high.
Nor does she push her sexuality. She is a funny person, that doesn't change the fact that it will be a gathering of blithering idiots though. The main reason not to watch.
Amen!
MSM media is feeding us celebrity drivel like sugary treats. But instead of our teeth rotting, its our morals and society. Wake up and brush your teeth!
Bomb the Baldwins, Bomb Sean Penn, Nuke good ole Johnny Depp over their in gay Paris.
Now THAT, it is true. Though, I think they are far less offensive than the Oscars. At least we can root for a Pubbie, Patricia Heaton!
Excellent pick! Another reason, among many, for me NOT to watch. The only people who watch this junk are braid dead nitwits and relatives of the gutless entertainers. It's all a form of celebrity worship. They can stuff it.
Exactly why I rarely watch TV.
It's a shame she's a deviant. I think she's funny on her tv show, and she doesn't slap you in the face with 'gayness'. She's pretty too- beautiful eyes, what a waste that she'd rather dress like a man. I've never seen her standup routine, might be different, but she is talented. Without her as Dory, " Finding Nemo" wouldn't have been as sweet or memorable,IMO.
Is it really 2%? I remember hearing a statistic that was closer to 10%. But that may be in certain areas. In Hellywood, it's probably closer to 20% with another 30 - 40 Bisexuals.
I agree---she's very funny to me.....I will watch as long as I hear she keeps politics out of it.
Amazing what they try to pass off as entertainment these days. But with so many homosexual writers and others in Hollywood, it isn't surprising.
That last pick is the best. Not only is he a fag, he's a freaky fag, BWAHAHAHAHA!!!
Not in my neighborhood.
And I would suggest that it isn't so in yours either that one in five are fudge packers.
LOL!
I don't like her but remember she hosted the Emmy's immediately after 9-11 and she had a great line..."everyone's doing their part to fight terror, even us tonight," she said"....what would drive the Taliban more nuts then watching a lesbian on stage, dressed in a suit surrounded by nothing but Jews?"...it was really funny!
She's right, we don't TALK about it. We pretend we have never done that to our friends.
Agreed, her new show is so funny she'll make the awards interesting.
