The FRENCH are showing some backbone? I think they just have a clearer sense of the need to defend their culture (or maybe it's just an overweening cultural superiority) than the British or Americans do at this time. But with a 10% Muslim population, they've also got a much harder task ahead.

The French, bless their hearts, have been like this for decades. They'll say one thing, but when push comes to shove, they do what they believe is in their national interest, secretly if needed. Anyone remember when the bombed that Greenpeace ship? Sweetness! Anyways, I have it on no authority whatsoever, just a feeling, that the French, while officially stabbing us in the back during this war, have been aiding us behind the scenes. They may be proud, too proud, and aloof, but they ain't stupid.
Check this out, can you imagine the uproar if the US began deporting Muslim Clerics? But the French do what they want, when they want...
