An Indian origin doctor in Britain was pelted with stones and verbally abused by a gang of youths in a racially motivated attack following the London bombings.
Yashen Maharaj, 28, who was attacked on July 23, had worked as part of Medway National Health Service Trust's standby team to treat victims of the July 7 London bombings.
"The doctor was verbally abused and more disturbingly had missiles, including large stones and rocks thrown at him, one of which hit the doctor on the back," a hospital spokeswoman said.
Maharaj continued to attend his duties but declined to talks to newsmen.
The spokeswoman said: "Fortunately, the doctor was not seriously injured in the incident, but was extremely shaken and dismayed."
"The racial abuse from the youths was particularly disgusting, as it was aimed at the very people who, on the day of the bombings, were on standby as part of the Trust's London Emergency Planning procedure and could potentially have been needed to treat the very same victims from the bombings," she said.
"The Trust would like to make it very clear that it will not tolerate any racial abuse on any of its staff on or off the hospital premises, particularly in the tensions following recent terrorist events in London," she said.
English punks aren't known for their impressive brain power.
I knew this was comming.
Hindus would have to pay for the actions of Muslims.
Neither are American punks.
Some idiot here shot a Sikh after 9/11.
part of the problem with a conflict with a religion is you cant tell who is a follower of the religion. It's like looking for a communist. I think a couple of thugs in the UK just dicovered that. How much you wanna bet they were drunk and just saw some foreign looking guy.
skin color!
however some sikhs are violent too!
Perhaps we should send the NCAA over there to clean house...Oops, wrong Indians. Sorry.
When trouble threatens a country, those outsiders are made the scapegoat....as threats to the security of the country.
Happens, unfortunately. Some guy here in Pennsylvania called me an Iraqi at the start of the war. I just could not stop laughing. Needless to say, that left him very confused.
Shouldn't you be drawing a distinction between Hindu-Sikh-Christian(Indians) "outsider" who form the richest community in the US and UK and have greatly contributed to the country's economy, and the Muslim(Pakistani-Arab) "outsiders" who become the poorest community and the biggest trouble makers anywhere they go?
Perhaps the british government should make muslims wear some kind of marking on their lapel--perhaps a yellow crescent?--so travesties like this do not happen again.
:)
Hmmm. . .good point.
Now you are "profiling" the English.
The same thing happened in Mesa AZ after 9/11 where a Hindu was murdered.
"So. . .are there no muslims with a "hindu" name?
Are there no non-muslims with a muslim names?"
Muslims keep their names from the Koran, Hindus dont.
Hindus have (mostly)Sanskrit names. The Muslims never keep a Sanskrit name. For a Muslim, to keep a Hindu name instead of a Koranic name is akin to sacrilege.
In India most of the times you can easily figure out the religion or the eihnic community a person belongs to, just from the name. Most surnames in India are typical of a certain geographic region within India. And in case of Muslims, there names are almost always ......Arabic or Persian (both name and surname). And in India, only the Muslims keep Arabic names. You can always tell a Muslim from the name.
So you can be 100% certain "Yashen Maharaj" isnt a Muslim.
Go ahead and take a look at the pictures of the 9/11 victims. A lot of black, hispanic and Asian faces. Or maybe you should look at the victims of terrorism in Kashmir. Or Iraq. Or the dozens of black Africans who died in the embassy bombings in the 90's.
Terrorists don't really care what race their victims happen to be
When white people seek revenge its termed "racial" attacks.
Fine. We can call these little little jackals who attacked an innocent Indian doctor due to nothing more than the color of his skin terrorists, if you'd like.
