Alleged gang member held after ‘coyote’ found dead

ROMA — A group of Mara Salvatrucha gang members sneaking into the United States may have beaten one of their smugglers to death, according to Starr County Sheriff Rey Guerra.

Smugglers were leading a group of 25 undocumented immigrants through Starr County early Wednesday when five men, believed to be members of the notorious El Salvador gang, MS-13, allegedly attacked one of the smugglers, or coyotes. The killing may have been in retaliation for another immigrant who was removed from the group along the way in Mexico.

After other members of the group mentioned a possible MS-13 connection to authorities, Guerra said the Bureau of U.S. Customs and Border Protection picked up a man who had tattoos linked with the notorious gang. If MS-13 is involved, it is the first time Guerra has heard of the gang’s presence in Starr County.

"We don’t take any chances," Guerra said. "Believe me, any time that word (MS-13) comes up, we are going to take it seriously."

Authorities were alerted about 2 a.m. Wednesday, when one of Guerra’s deputies picked up three undocumented immigrants who told him they had run away from their group after MS-13 gang members began beating their guide. Guerra said sheriff’s deputies found the coyote, a Mexican man in his early 20s, beaten to death in a wooded area near Athens Street north of Roma. The three individuals picked up were not considered suspects, Guerra said.

"This group of 25 aliens were being guided by two young men through Miguel Aleman and Roma," Guerra said. "Supposedly, according to one of the 25 that we picked up, six were together when they started out from El Salvador. One got kind of rowdy. He was taken away from the group and they never saw him again."

That occurred in Miguel Aleman. Guerra said once the immigrants arrived on the north side of the Rio Grande, the five remaining Salvadorans became violent and beat the guide out of revenge for their missing gang member.

"We have not been able to identify the guide," he said. "He’s a Mexican national in his early 20s."

Guerra said the Bureau of U.S. Customs and Border Protection had initially considered filing federal charges, but by Wednesday evening the case had been turned over to the county. Two individuals, one a suspected MS-13 member, would be arraigned today . Ten of the undocumented immigrants who did not participate in the killing have been detained and may possibly serve as witnesses in the case.

"Tomorrow, we will continue questioning and interviewing," he said. "We’ll talk to the DA and see which ones would be the better witnesses."

It isn't just MS-13 gang members by themselves. Mexican commando units trained by the U.S. military and CIA are in charge of all smuggling operations across the border: including illegal drugs, people intending to work in the U.S. and Arab terrorists. . . Read More?. There were recent reports from Texas blaming these "Zetas" for most of murders along the border:

The ultra-violent, U.S.-trained elite, Mexican paramilitary commandos known as the "Zetas," responsible for hundreds of murders along the border this year, have expanded their enforcement efforts on behalf of a drug cartel by setting up trafficking routes in six U.S. states. Source

I would directly link the reports from Texas, but they were posted on Alex Jones' web site.

The Secretary of Homeland Security testified before two Congressional committees last month that he could not secure the border against terrorists and criminals until after Congress enacts certain reforms including a guest worker program.

DHS, and especially CBP has been investing heavily in electronic surveillance equipment since 9/11. Some of the devices utilize aerial platforms including blimps, Unmanned Areal Vehicles, fixed wing aircraft, helicopters, and satellites. In addition there are underground motion detection devices, tower mounted surveillance cameras and personal night vision glasses.

We have the ability to electronically detect people crossing the border but we can't tell whether someone is a babysitter, terrorist or MS-13 gang member.

We can't possibly intercept everyone crossing the border and process them. In the example of this article if the border guards had attempted to interdict the group of thirty, the MS-13 would have probably forced the laborers to break cover and run in different directions while they remained hidden. The guards would have been diverted to running down, arresting, transporting and processing some of the laborers to sector centers while MS-13 waited until the area was clear and then proceeded.

If we can enact a guest worker program it will shift the laborers to official portals of entry and free up our border guards to effectively utilize our electronic surveillance tools to secure the border from terrorists and criminals.

Unfortunately, after the Secretary of DHS testified as to the reform legislation needed to secure our borders, Tom Tancredo vowed to block the legislation. You see, the Buchanan/Tancredo crowd isn't really concerned about terrorists or MS-13. They are only concerned about immigrant laborers and keeping the issue alive for their own purposes.

The way to deal with MS 13,"Zeta" commandoes and other criminal gangs is to end the War on Drugs. Pull the financial rug out from underneath them. The War on Terror cannot be won as long as the WOD is being waged. Drug prohibition funds our enemies both foreign and domestic. The financial and human resources squandered on the WOD could be better used to protect our borders and prosecute the War on Terror.

You need to start referring to it as the "Buchanan/Tancredo/DeLay crowd" from now on. I thought you got the memo already.

Sombra Negra seems to have found a fairly effective way to deal with ms-13
From wikipedia:
Sombra Negra hunts down and executes all types of criminals, but it is well known for its specialty in pursuing and executing members of the notorious El Salvador-based street gang Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13 or MS). The MS-13 gang is considered the most dangerous street gang in the United States by sectors of the U.S. law enforcement community. Nevertheless, Sombra Negra is rumored to match the MS-13 and possibly even surpass them in terms of violence and brutality. Sombra Negra has already claimed responsibility for the deaths of several MS-13 members in El Salvador. It is reported that members of MS-13 are so intimidated by the Sombra Negra that there have been several documented incidents where MS-13 members have attempted to hide their membership in the MS-13 by pouring acid on their MS-13 tattoos (which identifies them as MS-13 members) and then using a cheese grater to scrape off the skin. Many members of MS-13 reside in the United States illegally and are afraid of being deported back to El Salvador because they fear they will face certain punishment and/or execution at the hands of Sombra Negra upon their return.

Well, your post is very informative. Homeland Security is taking the position that our borders cannot be protected. They say that new steps cannot be taken to protect Americans, unless we open them even wider by adopting a guest worker program. This attitude is pure bovine squat. Forged Mexican identification cards are being sold on the streets of Los Angeles today. Guest worker passes can be forged just as easily tomorrow.

Want to tell you a little story. When I was living in Los Angeles County in 1995, I met some a Mexican businessman. He ran a small printing business. On his desk was a stack of freshly printed Mexican currency. Very easy for this guy to be printing millions for the Mexican mob. He could distribute forged currency on both sides of the border. I asked a few discrete questions about his business operation. A few weeks later, I contacted feds about my suspicions that this man was running a forgery operation. The FBI and the Secret Service did not want to hear about my suspicions of criminal activity. When I left California in 2000, he was still in business.

Our government is living in La La Land and desires to remain delusional.

And it's proven true just by his saying so?

"And it's proven true just by his saying so? "

He speaks for the United States on matters of internal national security in the War On Terror. He is the domestic counterpart of the Seccrtary of Defense in the War On Terror.

If you choose to believe Pat Buchannon instead, that is your right. 40/100 of one per cent of the people believed Buchanan in 2000. In any war you are going to have your Jane Fonda type who sabotage the war efforts. Some have even run for President.

That doesn't mean that whatever he says on internal national security is proven true just by his saying so.

If you choose to believe Pat Buchannon instead

I don't blindly believe anyone ... I do choose to be skeptical of self-serving administration statements.
