Leave it to the peanut brained president to soak up the publicity at the launching of a tub named after him. The ship shown in your story at least has the correct color.

"This will be the first dive for the former governor of Georgia since his Navy career ended in 1953..." Umm....didn't he take a dive in the 1980 election?

The event is not open to the public.
Darn! You mean we can't watch him sink into oblivion?

Only in America could a peanut headed, hare horrified, traitorous, woosy, PEACE ACTIVIST, have an instrument of war named after him. Whose frickin' no thinkin' brain thought of this one?

Even if he hadn't been a sub officer (which of course he was), I think it's appropriate that his namesake vessel is designed to sink.

The U.S.S. Jimmy Carter?
Yikes, things are wose than I thought. By FAR!
Couldn't they at least call it the Barney Fife, the Goober, the Gomer Pyle or some other name with more class? Bonzo would be an improvement.

Carter is a disgrace to the Naval Academy. If he had any character at all, he would confess that he has broken faith with the Brigade of Mishsipmen, and return his diploma---and the cost of his education at USNA.

"This will be the first dive for the former governor of Georgia since his Navy career ended in 1953."
He went to sea on a 688 CL boat in 1977 or 1978 along with ADM Rickover. He also visited a boat in 1979 or 1980 but I don't think he went to sea that time.

After his return, Carter plans to hold a news conference Friday to answer questions about his first sub dive in more than 50 yearssee any attacking rabbits, Mr Carter?

Although the sub has a lousy name, Popular Science had an article on changes that have been made to the sub. It's now a high-tech spy sub, with all kinds of awesome abilities like a 'garage' for submersibles and diver egress, fold-out electric props that allow the sub to turn on it's length and drift silently, high-tech sonar... Really cool what they did to her.
Here's a LINK to a diagram, the article was in the last few issues of this year.
