THE PRESIDENT: Withdrawing before the mission is complete would send a signal to those who wonder about the United States' commitment to spreading freedom. You see, I believe and know that we're at war, and we're at war against a hateful ideology. And the way to defeat that ideology in the long-term is to spread a hopeful ideology, one that says to young girls, you can succeed in your society, and you should have a chance to do so; one that says to moms and dads, you can raise your child in a peaceful world without intimidation; and one that says to people from all walks of life, you have a right to express yourself in the public square.
It's the spread of liberty that is laying the foundation of peace, and is very important for our citizens -- no matter what side of the political aisle you're on -- to understand that the mission is a vital mission and it's one that will be -- that we obviously couldn't complete if -- if we -- if we didn't fulfill our goals, which was to help the Iraqis.
Yes, Steve.
Q Just to make clear, you're referring to Mrs. Sheehan here, I think?
THE PRESIDENT: I'm referring to any grieving mother or father, no matter what their political views may be. Part of my duty as the President is to meet with those who've lost a loved one. And so, you know, listen, I sympathize with Mrs. Sheehan. She feels strongly about her -- about her position. And I am -- she has every right in the world to say what she believes. This is America. She has a right to her position. And I've thought long and hard about her position. I've heard her position from others, which is, get out of Iraq now. And it would be -- it would be a mistake for the security of this country and the ability to lay the foundations for peace in the long-run, if we were to do so.
But no, Steve, I've met with a lot of families, and I have done my best to bring comfort to the families and honor to the loved one, and get different opinions when you meet with moms and dads and sons and daughters and wives and husbands of those who have fallen. One opinion I've come away with universally is that, you know, we should do everything we can to honor the fallen. And one way to honor the fallen is to lay the foundation for peace.
"Get off my lawn!"
F-ing liberals. I can't stand em. I'm sorry but Cindy shithead ought to be arrested. The MSM will cause us to lose Iraq.
A very gracious and sympathetic response from a President whose reputation has been besmirched by this woman. Be Seeing You,
Chris
The Libs are doing their damndest to cause us to lose Iraq and the entire Middle East, the war, everything.
Should have referred to Sheehan as "the lady who has sadly become a tool for the far-left."
Our President has his flaws but God Bless the man...when the lib-media wants to put him down or out he comes back and says/does just the right thing....now if he'll shut down the borders and start to kick more butt in the ME rather then trying to win hearts/minds I'd go have a beer.
The President is a class act.
I know this country won't return to the idyllic, real freedom days of the late 1700s and early 1800s....

He should not have responded to her at all.
This enourages more crazies to pull the same stunt.
better yet say "hey- I got an e-mail from your parents and cousins....maybe you should take heed"....
Wasn't she supposed to be arrested today, Thursday? That's what she predicted.
For those who still do not get the WAR on TERROR, please read the following excerpt from the September 2001 Speech:
How will we fight and win this war? We will direct every resource at our command -- every means of diplomacy, every tool of intelligence, every instrument of law enforcement, every financial influence, and every necessary weapon of war -- to the disruption and to the defeat of the global terror network.
This war will not be like the war against Iraq a decade ago, with a decisive liberation of territory and a swift conclusion. It will not look like the air war above Kosovo two years ago, where no ground troops were used and not a single American was lost in combat.
Our response involves far more than instant retaliation and isolated strikes. Americans should not expect one battle, but a lengthy campaign, unlike any other we have ever seen. It may include dramatic strikes, visible on TV, and covert operations, secret even in success. We will starve terrorists of funding, turn them one against another, drive them from place to place, until there is no refuge or no rest. And we will pursue nations that provide aid or safe haven to terrorism. Every nation, in every region, now has a decision to make. Either you are with us, or you are with the terrorists. (Applause.) From this day forward, any nation that continues to harbor or support terrorism will be regarded by the United States as a hostile regime. -Bush Doctrine

If we lose Iraq it will because our administration decided about a year ago to fight another Vietnam type of war.
I'm not ready to pin those bad decisions on the media.
Yup, I did just that, sent her a copy of the Drudge story concerning her relatives request for her to cease making a fool of herself.
Can you honestly say we're sticking to this idea?
