To an outsider like me, it seems to have gone downhill rapidly since Guliani left, and Bloomberg took over. Correct me if I'm wrong, but ol Mikey considers himself a Republican, doesn't he?

What a joke.

Awesome. The fat people took a nap while the smokers were getting fleeced. Now it's their turn. A quick search of FR's archive will surely dig up countless posts predicting this. The nanny state has chewed up smokers and spit them out. On to the next!

Needs repeating because you've hit the nail on the head.

I've done so a few times.

Dear tfecw,

Please be advised that nails are a protected hardware group,
and the advocation of hitting them goes against NYC Penal
Code 12.384 Section A, which states that "anyone who advocates
the abuse of protected hardware groups shall be guilty of
a Misdemeanor, Class A."

Please desist immediately or we will be forced to act.

Yours,

New York City Department of Hardware Protection
Floor 12 Suite 102
Busybody Building

What professional restaurant cooks with fake butter? On another note, this reminds me eerily of Demolition Man.

Yes and no. Bloomberg was a democrat prior to running for NYC mayor. The democrat field was highly competitive in the primary and it would have been difficult for Bloomberg to win the nomination. But the GOP field was wide open and ready for the taking so he switched to the GOP just prior to filing and then ran as a republican to make his nomination for mayor a virtual calk walk.

Next thing you know, they will be rounding up all the fat people and putting them into "nutritional therapy" camps.

Mental Hygiene . . . .?

Why of course; brush and floss your brain every day!

Heck, I left long before Guliani even got there.

bloominidiot is a joke. The only reason he ran as a Republican was he couldn't by his way to a win in the Dem primary....but could with the Republican party and then basically bought his way into city hall.

Cool, Got off with a warning instead of being forced to pay 3 years of "hitting the nail on the head" back taxes.

Now if only they could set up some sort of website where I can remotely hit nails on the head from the comfort of my own home.

"The Department of Health and Mental Hygiene said the voluntary change..."

Voluntary for now. Just wait till no one complies.

They'll probably pass out nice, cheery "Trans Fat Free" stickers to the restaurants that so pledge and agree to be inspected periodically for compliance to same. There's no way they could force this, not without creating a 3-ring circus in court.

The "voluntary ban" should be implemented on the consumer's side, eating whatever the hell he damn pleases.

"There's no way they could force this,..."

Sure they could. They already have the 1-800-rat-rprt numbers for reporting smoking. All it takes is a few enthusiastic citizens and their revenue enhancement plans will work out just fine. I'm sure a few freepers would even volunteer.

Was there anybody who didn't see this coming? I'll have to spend some time in the archives; check to see what the anti-smoking nazis were saying then.

More fun to come until/if he gets kicked out of office, I bet.
