A common reason why more governments and enterprises around the world are moving to open source software is unhappiness I have to say that when I think of companies that are easy to do business with, Microsoft is not the first to leap to my mind.
Also, from a security standpoint, governments do have a legitimate concern in knowing to the last detail available how their information is being handled, and that's not available with Microsoft's products.

Another examply of open source prostletizing.
If you like it, do it- but smarmy articles like this by open-source advocates are really tiring me out.
They remind me of vegetarians and liberals- its not good enough to think their way- they have to make everyone ELSE think their way too.

Google was very far sighted to use Linux especially now that Microsoft is very jealous and envious of them. And competing with them in the search engine business. Plus a real blow to Microsoft prestige that the best programmers would rather work at google where the buzz is.

Well, if you find Microsoft arrogant and greedy, try Oracle! Or, better yet, Computer Associates.
All the talk about TCO makes no difference if you are over a barrel at licensing contract renewal time.

A common reason why more governments and enterprises around the world are moving to open source software is unhappiness,... Unhappiness with a competitor's product is NOT the way to grow your business. If Linux is to thrive, it must make people happier with Linux than with other products.
It's moving that direction, and I feel that I can be much more productive on a Linux box than a MS box. But I also understand that they have to promote the product more for people to see its benefits--not just MS' shortcomings.

Oh yeah, CBR is a real hotbed of sandal wearing hippies.
The fact is, nobody likes dealing with enterprise software salemen. That process has become value-subtracted for the product.

Unhappiness with a competitor's product is NOT the way to grow your business Exactly. This is what cost the democrats the last election. They felt they could throw any candidate out there and run on a "hate Bush" platform. It didn't work for them and it won't work for Linux either.

Some governments see open source as "a way to move away from US-based software company products," he said. Hmmm ... I wonder if Linux advocates in the US feel the same? Maybe Linux could use this as a slogan: Hate America? Get Linux!"

That makes as much sense as saying "Hate America? Buy a Honda!" Actually, they DID say things to that effect in the 70's. In Detroit, it's still a bit of a stigma to own a foreign car.

Actually, they DID say things to that effect in the 70's. In Detroit, it's still a bit of a stigma to own a foreign car. The greedy union thugs who destroyed the domestic auto industry by driving costs through the roof say that.
Are you a union thug?
