SIMI VALLEY A man annoyed by a noisy car alarm fired at least three bullets into a Toyota Camry, silencing the alarm and bringing out police who hauled him away in handcuffs, authorities said.
David Owen Rye, 48, was arrested and booked for investigation of reckless discharge of a firearm and felony vandalism, Sgt. John Adamczyk said. Rye allegedly told officers he grabbed his handgun and went out to put a stop to the car alarm.
The owner of the Camry, a sailor whose ship the USS Theodore Roosevelt just returned from an eight-month cruise, was visiting a friend when he heard the gunfire at about 10 p.m. Tuesday, KCAL-TV reported.
"I mean, that's not a safe guy. I mean, you get upset over an alarm, over a noise like that, (then) there's some little kids making too much noise and he decides to do something awful," sailor Nicholas Moreno, 25, said.
Police were called to the Yosemite Avenue apartment building and Rye was ordered out of his apartment by an officer with a bullhorn. A Los Angeles Police Department helicopter also responded and Rye was arrested.
Neighbor Ken Davis said he heard gunshots and looked outside to see Rye holding a gun.
"It was little scary," Davis said. "I didn't know what kind of mood he was in. I didn't want to say anything to him."
btw, the Camry is at a local garage and is expected to survive the shooting incident.
Justifiable insanity.
If the perp owns an American verhicle, can he be charged with a hate crime?
Oh. So it wasn't his car. well that makes a difference.
One day at my apartment a car alarm went off outside my window and didn't stop all night long. I guess several people called the police, who gave the car a ticket. Believe me, if I had had a gun, I would have shot the damned car that night too...
Get your hands on a Toyota - you'll never let go.
No, really...that's a crime?
$1 fine. Next case...
Well, you can yell at kids to make them stop.
I can understand someone doing this........
One of those things you would like to do, but know you can't.
How many people run over to investigate a car alarm going off in a parking lot? Zero.
We just wish the thing will shut off. And if by some off chance it really is a thief, the quicker he steals the car, the sooner the noise stops.
"I can understand someone doing this........"
Lol, but I have to agree with you. :)
I have to Thank God everyday for self control...because in this world we live in...it would be easy to kill some of these jokers...........
Lots and lots of years ago I went to work at a cop station and noticed one of my co-workers "datsun" pick-up truck shot full of holes in the hood area.
I found him in the briefing room and one of the other guys asked what in the ---- happened. Turned out the truck acted up on him (again) and he decided to put it out of it's misery and emptied a browning hi power into it.
Everybody was looking at him as if he were nuts and I walked up and shook his hand, told him I owned one of the pieces of s==t too.
who hasn't at least briefly entertained the thought - especially at 2am when it's whooping.
My supervisor heard the helicopter going over early this morning. AFter a while she got up and looked out to see what was going on. She could see it doing it's little circle routine with light shining down. Then early this morning she found out what had happened. LOL, someone needs some anger management...
I'm sorry... but I feel for the shooter here.
Amen! Diminished capacity even. One thing's for sure, the ASS who owned the car didn't give a damn about the alarm. However, the gunshots did get his attention now, didn't they?
This quote from the piece is evidence of someone who has been mentally compromised: "you get upset over an alarm, over a noise like that, (then) there's some little kids making too much noise and he decides to do something awful". Sorry, I don't believe that hysterical craziness for a second.
Anyone who claims they haven't entertained the notion is a liar. :)
