Sowing change from a Texas ditch

But, instead of someone famous, is it crazy to think that, this time, the grieving nobody mom of a young soldier killed in Iraq a little more than a year ago could be the catalyst?
Timing is everything. A year ago just after Sheehan, 48, met President Bush at Fort Lewis, it was too early for a sit-in to strum much of a public chord.
"He called her 'mom' then. He didn't even know her name or her son's name," said Walter Williams, professor emeritus at the Evans School of Public Affairs at the University of Washington.
Now, with "everything going downhill" we're still being told we're turning the corner and that the insurgency is on its "last legs." "Well, tell that to the 19 Marines who were killed last week," Williams said.
Until those deaths, it seemed that the sting of American losses barely simmered. Now the heat is up just as Sheehan and her increasing supporters have set up "Camp Casey" in the roadside ditch allotted them by security.
Now, the facts belie everything the administration has said about this war. Bush is at a point where criticism could hurt. And you have the mother of a child who was killed standing outside in the heat, Williams said. He grew up in Texas and he knows from hot.
Too hot to "handle?" "This lady doesn't seem like someone who will be handled by sweet talk, platitudes or deception," he said.

Why No Tea and Sympathy?
By MAUREEN DOWD
WASHINGTON
[snip]
Cindy Sheehan, a 48-year-old Californian with a knack for P.R., says she will camp out in the dusty heat near the ranch until she gets to tell Mr. Bush face to face that he must pull all U.S. troops out of Iraq. Her son, Casey, a 24-year-old Army specialist, was killed in a Sadr City ambush last year.
The president met with her family two months after Casey's death. Capturing W.'s awkwardness in traversing the line between somber and joking, and his love of generic labels, Ms. Sheehan said that W. had referred to her as "Mom" throughout the meeting, and given her the sense that he did not know who her son was.
The Bush team tried to discredit "Mom" by pointing reporters to an old article in which she sounded kinder to W. If only her husband were an undercover C.I.A. operative, the Bushies could out him. But even if they send out a squad of Swift Boat Moms for Truth, there will be a countering Falluja Moms for Truth.
It's amazing that the White House does not have the elementary shrewdness to have Mr. Bush simply walk down the driveway and hear the woman out, or invite her in for a cup of tea. But W., who has spent nearly 20 percent of his presidency at his ranch, is burrowed into his five-week vacation and two-hour daily workouts. He may be in great shape, but Iraq sure isn't.

This summer is reminding me more and more of the Summer of 2001.
The MSM is just walking further and further out on the plank. The MSM still is failing to deal with the reality of the New Media. This woman clearly has an agenda and is clearly changing her story.
Cindy Sheehan is a fraud who can't get her story straight
I understand there were other families that were at this meeting and witnessed the exchange between Cindy and the President
"Too hot to "handle?" "This lady doesn't seem like someone who will be handled by sweet talk, [b]platitudes or deception[b]," he said."
Maybe because this is what she engages in herself?
I see MoDo has crawled out from under her rock.
John Carlson (570 KVI-AM - Seattle) had the brother of a soldier who died on his show yesterday. The brother was at the same Bush meeting as Sheehan and completely refuted her claims, saying Bush was quiet...meeting with each family individually...and very caring...embracing the family members and tearing up at their stories.
And SHAME on the MSM for IGNORING these families
They are helping and aiding Cindy in pushing her lies
you have the mother of a child who was killed .....
A child? Hmmmmmm..... I didn't know we allowed children in combat.
Naturally the MSM is in bed with Cindy Sheehan. They're all a bunch of barking moonbats.
Is this woman deliberately trying to trash her son's memory, or is she just real stupid?
They are helping and aiding Cindy in pushing her lies
What do you expect from the MSM? They don't report the massive voter fraud and intimidation implemented by DEMOCRATS. They won't say much about "Scare America", even though that lousy excuse for radio STOLE money from old people and children (doncha know only Republicans do that?), but by GOD they'll stand by a liar who might make Dubya look bad. These people are beyond pathetic. Where's my thesaurus?
They learned nothing from CBS and Dan Rather
Over at DU it's All Cindy All the Time. Not a peep about the Able Danger story. Imagine that?
The MSM facilitates the Democrat/Liberal tactic of saying one thing and then changing their story when it fits their purposes. When the original truth is exposed, they yell that they're being smeared. John Kerry tried that during the campaign. The simple matter of pointing out his lack of an effective Senate record was deemed a "smear campaign" by the MSM. They're doing that here, also. The other families who were there when President Bush first met Sheehan and are refuting her claims now are going to be labelled the Swiftboat Families, or something equally as vicious.
Accorindg to the very twisted media, we do.
So the P.I. is devoting three separate pieces in one day to this story. Surprise! Reminds me of Eugene McCarthy's comment about the media: "The media are like a flock of birds sitting on a telephone wire. They sit and sit, and then - when one flies off - all the others follow."
According to the very twisted media, we do.
I don't presume to speak for her son, but if it were me, I'd be thinking "Mom, can you please be quiet? I'm proud of what I'm doing."
