Bomb cache found in Iraq believed to be from Iranian Revolutionary Guard: official
AFP via Iran Focus ^ | 2005 Aug 9

WASHINGTON - US intelligence believes that a cache of manufactured bombs seized in Iraq about two weeks ago was smuggled into the country from Iran by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, an intelligence official said Tuesday.

"We believe they came from Iran's Revolutionary Guards," the official told AFP, speaking on condition of anonymity.

The find is significant not only because of the Iranian connection but also because it indicates manufactured bombs are now being introduced in a conflict that has seen the use of mainly improvised explosive devices.

Hitting Iran would not be the cakewalk Iraq has been comparatively.

"We have to gather evidence on them so we can attack them with International Law on our side. If the Iranians want to fight a fight they will get. It's time to take out their mad mullahs too."

Attack them with what troops? We're stretched thin already. Are you talking about a Clinton-type air attack on some key facilities, to keep them busy with their own cleanup so they'll stop messing with Iraq?

Send them back, with about 500 kilotons of their cousins.

Now the question is, will Bush go Nixonian on Iran? Or will he go the Johnson route?

What's the problem?
We know who they belong to and It wouldn't be right to keep someone else's property. Return the bombs to their owner ASAP.

I trust you'll include the detonators and an offer-they-can't-refuse to ensure that all explosive material does indeed explode on delivery.

Gotta wonder if the supply of leftover Saddam munitions
is finally running low.

Anything that belongs to them should be returned. I recommend air mail.

Seriously, I don't want to expand a war but we can't let them keep killing our people in Iraq though.

Nixonian. I'm beginning to think they prefer Iranian (Persian) extremism to Arab extremism. More pragmatic, less dogmatic.

Are we stretched that thin? Or is that what the U.S. military would have are enemies in the region beleive...to bait them out, and have them play their hand on our terms. IMHO, are latest troop build up in Iraq and Afgahnistan...has more to do with Iran than any worries over insurgent attacks during the installment of the new Iraqi Constitution...but I am not at CENTCOM...so...that's merely a guess.

Plus-Iran is much smaller than Iraq...we have people prepositioned, and we'll be able to take a more "gloves off" approach to those jokers...

Seems only right that we load them on a B-52 and return them to the country of origin.

Well in terms of strength, if Iran is supplying the insurgency with weapons then an armed conflict would slow down the weapon smuggling and lighten up the burden on securing Iraq.

Probably what would work better is a couple covert operations into Iran to sabotage domestic control ops. Essentially do the exact same thing back to them. Take out a few communication centers... maybe a couple police stations... power relays. Just make the Iranian boot keeping the plebians under control a little lighter.

"Nice thought but the whiners never let that affect thier bitching about Iraq."

I think the administration could care less about the whiners they are concerned with world leaders opinions where we have stake. To be this high up you have to be a strategic thinker.

Two Mechanized divisions can make short work of Iran. A modern US division has nearly three times the firepower of Patton's WWII Third Army. They are smaller and the government has a population that hates them. They are ripe for overthrow.
