IMO it would be a lot tougher than Iraq because half of it is mountainous. As for the population rising up and helping us depose the government, I wouldn't get my hopes up. They say blood is thicker than water, is so the Muslim culture is thicker than blood.

What Rummy also said in response to the "threat to Iran " question was that he was from Chicago and that if you are going to cock it you'd better be ready to throw it. (paraphrase)

"Only a matter of time...the clock for an Iranian incursion at CENTCOM is ticking down to zero-hour. IMHO."

Especially since they broke the UN/IAEA seals on their Nuclear Reactors. It is only a matter of time before they have a nuclear bomb, if they do not already have one hidden.

We are not fighting a war on terror. If we were, Syria and Iran would have had major facilities taken out by now.

We are fighting a "kill people softly" politically correct police action with one hand tied behind our back and hundreds of artillery pieces tied behind political dogooders hell bent on getting elected, not fighting our enemies.

I'm begining to think that Mr. Bush is not as tough as he sounds.

I presume you are referring to the present PRESIDENT Bush.

With the exception of President Reagan every dope in office has been reluctant to hammer these scum that have been killing us.

Please review the following list and tell me where reagan "hammered" the scum killing us. According to my addition, with only the figures given here, 307 Americans were killed and countless hundreds injured by terrorists during the Reagan administration. With one exception, what was done?

April 18, 1983 A suicide bomb attack by the Islamic Jihad on the United States Embassy in Beirut kills 63 and wounds another 120

October 23, 1983 The Islamic Jihad sends two suicide truck bombers into the Marine Barracks and French Barracks in Beirut. The truck bomb crashing into the Marine barracks kills 241 while the French lose 58 in their attack

November 15, 1983 A U.S. Naval Officer is assassinated by the November 17 terrorist group in Athens, Greece.

March 16, 1984 The Islamic Jihad kidnaps and kills U.S. Political Officer William Buckley in Beirut.

June 14, 1985 TWA flight 847 from Athens to Rome is hijacked by Hezbollah terrorists. 153 are held hostage for seventeen days. One passenger, a United States Navy sailor is killed by the terrorists.

October 7, 1985 The Achille Lauro cruise ship hijacking by four Palestine Liberation Front terrorists kills one U.S. citizen as his wheelchair bound body is dumped into the sea.

April 2, 1986 Palestinian terrorists calling themselves the Arab Revolutionary Cells detonates a bomb on TWA flight 840 as it approaches the Athens airport, opening up a hole in the cabin and sucking out four United States citizens, including one infant.

April 5, 1986 Libyan terrorists bomb a discotheque in Berlin, killing 3 U.S. servicemen and injuring 230 others.

********** In response to this, the United States bombs Tripoli and Benghazi, attempting to kill the Libyan dictator Moammar al-Qadhafi. **********

September 5, 1986 Pan Am flight 73 is hijacked by four Abu Nidal terrorists, 22 die in Karachi, Pakistan

December 26, 1987 A Barcelona bar known as a U.S. military hang out is bombed, killing one U.S. citizen

February 17, 1988 A U.S. Marine is kidnapped and killed by Hezbollah terrorists in Southern Lebanon.

April 14, 1988 The Organization of Jihad Brigades explodes a car bomb at a USO club in Naples, Italy killing one U.S. sailor.

December 21, 1988 Pan Am flight 103 is bombed by suspected Libyan terrorists and crashes in Lockerbie, Scotland killing 259 people.

I realize I "missed" a great deal of the 80's politics, but I think I would have remembered a war against these terrorists. I won't even go to the 90's murders by terrorists.

Jeeezzzz...it's only been a couple of years since the initiation of Operation Iraqi Freedom...the DOD, Bush, et. al. probably have a time table to fight the rest of the world's "bad guys"...and it's good to hear the rhetoric on Iran is heating up from the guys in the Admin that matter these days...Bush has a large percentage of his second term left...let's give him a chance to Bring Syria and Iran to justice...again, IMHO, the ball is already in play on this.

I am not sure some people here understand how the average Iranain feels towards the Iranian government. Let me try to explain: Saddam was a Sunni Muslim and he vehemntly oppressed the Shittes in Iraq (who make up nearly 60% of Iraq's population) and he also oppressed the Kurds (which make up 20% of Iraq's population). So the current Iraqi insurgency is heavily composed of Sunni Muslims and some very dangerous foreigners.

Now, coming to Iran, I am just wondering how many people here actually met an Iranian and asked his/her views about the current Iranian government. I have and their response was that yes, they are extremely unhappy with the corrupt regime BUT the Iranian government has yet to kill massive numbers of its own citizens with nerve gas and such. Also, many Iranians here in the United States voted for President Bush in the recent elections. Why? Because they thought Bush would be more willing to negotiate with Iran than start dropping bombs.

As for the United States not taking action, well, what exactly can we do? Remember that the most revered cleric in Iraq, Ayotollah al Sistani, has had much support from Iran for decades AND he does not accept Israel. Shittes around the world consider this guy to be there Pope John Paul just to give you an example. And al Sistani will not be very pleased if the United States starts to drop bombs on the country that gave helped him very much. Just think of it this way: if we could have bombed Iran without any massive political and military consequences, don't you guys think we would have already done it?

"Like someone else said earlier...this would be a lot tougher than Iraq."

Indeed it is, unless the Israelis enter into the fray too and help us for once. We can't continue having our boys killed in a proxy war. At one point Israel has to use its own military.

The funny (in a very sad way) thing is that thought never even crossed my mind! All that the US does to try to help them out and where are they when we are over there fighting what would end up being there wars ....

Yeah, I won't hold my breath for the IDF to show up for that war either!

Always amusing to read all the fantasies.

However, the reality, to this moment, is that the Bush Administration has done nothing to Iran concerning their creating instability in Iraq resulting in additional American casualties nor about Iran developing nuclear weapons.

What do you all have to say about that?

Or are you waiting to blame the next President for the certain mess?

Those taking the cakewalk approach either seem to think it is a hollywood picture. They don't seem to realize one would have to basically have a full air/ground war to remove Iran's military, industrial capabilities as has been mentioned by a few folks here. Cyclopdia-Squid for instance.<

Thanks M_U. We can kick Iran, Iraq, Pakistan and all the other 'stans butt, problem is it will take sacrifice, and lots of it. The U.S. can't do it alone, and it will certainly take a draft. I'm tired of seeing "rah, rah, Marines...just send them in..." B.S. Fact, if we want to kick ass on a BILLON muslims it will take more than voluntary enlistment. Get your sons and daughters ready, oh great FR gurus....you want to throw down?....park your SUV and get the tinfoil off your head and throw it into the "metal for victory" bin. Iran is now flanked on two sides by the U.S., it's not happenstance. How big is YOUR commitment FReepers? Ready for a nuke party?

This is why I said use our troops to seal the borders. Then the indigent terrorists would eventually succumb without re-supply.
Then see what we can do to Iran and Syria.
I think Clintons Kosovo air-war strategy is an alternative for Iran, as we would have airports, staging etc. in Iraq.

Thanks for the rational call. I do hope those that wish to nuke billions into atoms's striped of their electrons, realize pre-emptive nuclear war is out of the question. And to take out Syria and Iran by conventional means, is be a true blood bath. Our men and women went into Iraq based on UN resolution 1441, and plenty of at the time justified fear Saddam would finance/supply terrorist with wmd's to set off in US homeland, our offshore embassies, military installations, etc..
This administration has no desire to pound the ME into rubble. Quite the opposite. We want to in time show that secular democratized countries regardless of religous believes can benifit the whole world. And the more stable the ME is, the greater potential for the price of petroleum products to receed in the future, especially in the way of crude oil, and natural gas. At any rate:
"metal for victory". Yea! But we don't have the steel industry left to turn the stuff into end products. We couldn't even obtain enough armor for upgrading our military vehicles if we remember last years little problem. But that is another subject obviously beyond the scope of the current post's issues.

Frankly, this is the perfect thread. In case most people don't know (you sir, are the exception), this country has become a service orientated society, almost all the heavy industry is gone, overseas.....the U.S. has very few areas that produce 'War Weapons". The wake up call will be long and loud........

We have to gather evidence on them so we can attack them with International Law on our side.

Like history, international law is interpreted by the victors. Take them out now.
