Conservatives have traditionally embraced religious issues, often giving Republicans the image of being the more "pro-God" party. But now some Democrats are fighting to change that image.
In the 2004 election, many voters cited "morals" along with candidate stances on issues like gay marriage and abortion as key to their election picks. These so-called "values voters" overwhelmingly backed President Bush, but Democrats insist that Republicans don't have a monopoly on morality.

Democrats believe their appeal to the "value voter" lies in LOOKING LIKE a moral, ethical politician. The voters however will see right through such posturing immediately. Democrats and liberals are inherently immoral in the things they support: union corruption, criminals' rights, murder of the unborn, homosexuality, and group rights over individual excellence.

In order to attract those "values voters", you first have to have,,,well,,,values. The Democrats jettisoned those years ago.

Being the party of the ACLU doesn't help much either.
For some reason, the voters WILL keep tying in the boy scouts with morality.

Democrats insist this effort isn't new, and that strong, godly principles have always been abundantly clear in the party platformAnd those "Godly principles" are abortion and pro gay marriage?

Let me be the contrarian here; I think it might work. The Democrats can smell a major rift in the Conservative Movement between libertarian leaning conservatives and the religious leaning Right. There are a few items of contention between those groups but oddly enough it's key wedge issue is trade and immigration. The Democrats will exploit this somehow - they're not that dumb - and tighten up future political races.

If the Democrats can break the hold of the Pro-Abortion forces on their party, they may be able to make inroads amongst religiously minded people through appeals to touchy-feely programs to take care of the poor. But as long as they support the extermination of innocent children in the womb, they will never be acceptable to the vast majority of religious folk.
It is as simple as that. Opposition to abortion is one of the lynch pins of the Conservative movement. If the Democrats can credibly say that support of Life is no longer a Conservative monopoly, they will realize great gains.

In deed, Demonrats are embracing G-D and religion! Here are some examples:
"G-d damn it, Bush beat us again!"
"Jesus F*cking Christ, I wish Bush would die!"
"Jesus, I hope Roberts doesn't hurt my ability to kill a fetus!"
"Holy christ, that Rove is surely evil!"
and their favorite
"Michael Moore is G-d!"

The only "value" the Left has is the value of radical socialist egalitarianism.
It's a gutter religion, sure, but it's the best they've got.

The minute they perceive that there are more votes to be had by courting others, they will drop there staunch agenda for national level gay & reproductive rights and then say they believe these choices should be made at the state level...and then they'll court the anti globalization crowd where a great many on the Right, line up right now. Before you know it, this thing can turn leaving the GOP to scratch it's head.
"Why would they do this", you ask. We went to Vietnam because we feared the spread of Communism...the Dems will do this because the fear the spread of Capitalism. if America came derailed from the free(er) trade process, it would be huge step in ensuring disparities, hate, and lack of cooperation around the world. These are things that might just be in the Dems long-term interests.

Value-minded Liberal, "Abortion & Homosexuality are really Ok with God"
"Christian Republicans are lying!"
To: JRios1968
"I don't think God is either a Democrat or a Republican," said California state Sen. Jack Scott (search), a Democrat. "The moral values that I really care deeply about is justice for the poor and peacemaking and so that's the reason that I wouldn't call the Republican Party the party of religion."They really don't get it - those of us who actually believe in and worship God would never try to attribute a political party to Him; that's practicing the blasphemy of equating a perfect God with imperfect humans. We just note that Republicans are much more likely to worship an all-powerful God than an all-powerful government.
Since when are "justice for the poor and peacemaking" moral values? That's another disconnect, the Dims don't even understand moral values, how can they espouse them?

Dems can run on a religious theme, they just need to find a different religion than Christianity. Something with child sacrifice and orgies of personal pleasure with government funding would work nicely.
They can go for the pagan vote. Err... Then again, they already have the pagan vote wrapped up.
