August 9, 2005 Release Number: 05-08-13

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

IED SAFE HAVEN DESTROYED

BAGHDAD, Iraq – Coalition Forces destroyed a house in Baghdad August 6 after confirmation that the structure was being used by terrorists as a storage site for improvised explosive devices.

A detainee, captured earlier this week, provided credible information that the house was purchased as a safe haven for terrorists as well as for storage of weapons and explosives. Coalition Forces discovered that the house contained timing devices, detonation systems and improvised explosive devices.

Before conducting the operation, Coalition Forces cleared all civilians and temporarily moved personal property to a safe distance as a precautionary measure. Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) technicians then destroyed the house. Several secondary explosions resulted.

“Those who recruit, encourage and send suicide bombers on their missions have no interest in improving the lives of the Iraqi people,” said Col. Bill Buckner, spokesperson for the Multi-National Corps-Iraq. “Their only interest is to instill fear among the population and to create unrest as the country works towards self-government.”

In a related operation prior to the destruction of the house, EOD troops destroyed a vehicle after discovering it was rigged for use as a suicide bomb. Coalition forces inspected the vehicle and realized that the trigger could only be activated by the driver while inside the car.

One terrorist was detained at the location of the car bomb. His name is being withheld for operational security.

No civilians were harmed in either operation.

They showed the detainee a pic of Hillary.
He cracked and gouged out his own eyes.

Too bad they didn't put the terrorist in the house before detonation.

Wow. So they destroy a house in Baghdad. Meantime, the Iranians are shipping truckloads of sophisticated IED's to insurgents in Iraq. I would think a MOAB dropped on a major Iranian military complex would knock some sense into the mad mullahs.

America is still playing by rules that pussyfoot around the problem.

Yeah sure, BACK in 2003. They have been cut off from the large shipments you are talking about since at least march of 2004....

Now, I'm no terrorist sympathyzer, I think that they ought to be strapped in their IED vehicles and blown up, but man, you are getting to the point where I can't support you any more. Buddy, you have crossed the line from just punishment to sadism ;^)

That would be so wrong. It's just like saying that an oil rich nation needs a nuclear reactor for evil purposes. What have the Iranians ever done to us?
Seriously, we owe them big time. We need to stop that reactor and any enrichment plants they have. Only a fool and the UN believes they're using nukes for peaceful purposes.

I like it, one MOAB and screw what other countries say. We can say that's just payback for the hostages. Now on to the next payback...

They had footage on F&F this morning of a Predator watching a mortar team of three terrorists firing mortars, then tracking them to a house, then blowing the house. I was really surprised to see that going out on the open cable. It was a really cool video.

It looks like this offensive is making some progress. I do like seeing this... it doesn't make the losses hurt any less, but it makes it easier to maintain full support for the war effort when we have some picture of how we're taking the fight to the enemy.

LOL!
Well, at least they weren't strapped into the vIED vehicle with the bomb, and two stereos.
One playing Christina Aquilera, speakers at max distortion, and one playing selected quotes from Hillary with her pic taped to the front of the stereo.

But even I have limits on what I'd put someone through.
*shuddering*

Playing good-cop/bad-cop with the dueling stereos (remember, while Hitlery quotes is considered cruel and unusual punishment here, they'd welkcome them over there)?
