Phelps Hates the U.S. (Fred Phelps targets funerals of US servicemen killed in Iraq)
The Ledger-Enquirer [Columbus, GA] ^ | August 9, 2005 | Kaffie Sledge

It's difficult to imagine that the veterans who can't seem to find it within themselves to forgive Jane Fonda for what they view as treason during the Vietnam era don't seem to be very vocal about the hate-spewing Fred Phelps.

Phelps, head of an organization called Westboro Baptist Church, Topeka, Kan., is not like any clergyperson most of us have ever known. Apparently he never talks about God's love -- only hate.

The church home page can be reached online via godhatesfags.com.

It was sinful enough when we only knew this group for showing up at the funerals of homosexuals for the purpose of taunting family and friends and promoting their own special brand of hatred. But now they picket the funerals of military service members and proclaim that God hates them, too. Another Web site is godhatesamerica.com.

The Web sites also list the events the group plans to picket. Last week, the funeral of Christopher J. Taylor of Opelika was on the list. Taylor, an Army sergeant, died in a mortar attack in Balad, Iraq. He was hit by rounds as he was exiting a bunker. His funeral was in Opelika on Saturday. And television news reporters spoke with a woman identified as one of Phelps' followers.

On the Web site, Phelps' followers typically "thank God" for the death of any U.S. service member in Iraq. They thank God for deaths that result from improvised explosive devices.

According to information on the site, "God is killing them with IEDs and casting them into Hell."

Members of Phelps' group have no respect for the soldiers such as Taylor, who died so Westboro members can continue to have the freedom to picket as they do and say the things they say.

Answer the question: Do you call a black person a N?

My guess is you do,since you call a gay or lesbian a fag or a queer.

It's insensitive and disrespectful, P Diddy.

BTW, you can call me a drunk, an alcoholic, a co-dependent and a co-alcoholic. I don't deny any of those terms.

Just don't call me fat. (yuk yuk: I do have a sense of humor; where's yours?)

Precisely what would that be?

God hates homosexuals.

I find it amusing that you are able to make such a self righteous judgment and have the ability to peer into my heart to falsely accuse, without even attempting to make a case, of me being filled with hate.

It's amazing how so many of you PC churchians are able to make such self righteous judgments when someone disagrees with you, and uses plain language instead of the sugary sweet PC language you are conditioned to crave.

I knew you wouldn't touch those passages in Malachi and Romans. You prefer your own human philosophy over God's Word.

I agree with God's Word. If Fred Phelps agrees with God's Word on that point, then we are in agreement on that point.

But you charged that I agreed with Phelps on a lot.

Seems you exaggerated a bit, now didn't you. Dang, liberals don't exaggerate false charges any better than you have.

You two seem to agree on so much.

One point of agreement does not add up to "so much", implying a lot more.

Maybe you would like to retract that false charge.

I notice the group at the Ohio Marine (God bless and rest their souls) funeral were surrounded by a police escort. I don't know how those cops maintained the self control needed to perform that duty. Watching and guarding that gathering of scum with a sidearm on my hip would be too much.

I'm no expert but it seems that all the references to God not liking homosexuals seems to come from the Old Testemen. And doesn't the New Testement say that Jesus loves everyone. Isn't that the main tenent of the Christian religion, is too love and forgive?

It should come as no surprise that our enemies are all in one way or another, are on the same side.

Communists, Liberals, Socialists, Islamists, Nazis and Fred Phelps - they're all joined at the hip in hatred.

Awesome post, Ivan!
