Summertime often produces unexpected media figures, and this is Cindy Sheehan's season. Ms. Sheehan, the mother of a soldier killed in Iraq last year, is camping out near President Bush's ranch in Crawford, Tex., and says she won't leave until Mr. Bush agrees to meet with her to discuss the war. There are many reasons for the flood of media attention she is attracting: she has a poignant personal story and she is articulate - and, let's face it, August is a slow news month. But most of all, she is tapping into a growing popular feeling that the Bush administration is out of touch with the realities, and the costs, of the Iraq war.
Ms. Sheehan's 24-year-old son, Casey, was killed in Baghdad. She says she and her family met privately with Mr. Bush two months later, and she is sharply critical of how the president acted. He did not know her son's name, she says, acted as if the meeting was a party and called her "Mom" throughout, which she considered disrespectful.
Ms. Sheehan has traveled from her California home to Crawford, where Mr. Bush will be spending much of the month, in the hope of having a more substantive discussion. On Saturday, Mr. Bush's national security adviser and the White House deputy chief of staff met with her beside a road a few miles from the ranch, but she is still insisting on a meeting with the president.

Willing dupe for the jihadis. Throw her arse in jail.
He acted as if the meeting was a party
I hear he was blowing a noise maker and tossing confetti around like Rip Taylor.
Hello, Frisco!
NYTimes......YOUR RESEARCH SUCKS.
After reading what she said when she first met the president, and what she's saying now, my only logical conclusion is this woman is mentally ill.
And the press is exploiting it for their own agenda.
Unfortunately, this woman will likely completely crack soon, and the MSM will be left with more egg on its collective face than CBS was after memogate.
I saw the post yesterday about her. The Times is very careful not to mention the fact that she praised GW back in 2002 when her son was killed. She has done quite an "about face" since then, and it sounds like she is on some liberal groups payroll. Can anyone post yesterdays post on this?
She is not a dupe for the Left. She is card carrying agent for the Left. She only wants to use her son as a prop to advance her own left wing tax evading agenda.
She just gives Al Qaida organizations like the NY Times more crap to throw up agains the wall.
Well .. that isn't what she said last year
Hey NYSlimes .. why do you and the rest of the MSM ignore the other families who have lost loved ones in Iraq ???
Far be it from this drone to state the obvious: Were on her side.
It's a dark and stormy day for her to be out today. She must really want the publicity to be out in August in Texas.
What a presumption. Now if that isn't evidence of media bias from the NYSlimes, nothing is.
On one of the threads somewhere, she apparently accused US forces of atrocities.
Can anyone enlighten me on what she said?
Barf Alert!
Im amazed the Slimes took the time away from dumper diving for the adoption records for John Roberts's children to cover this non-story.
this a better link for the times op-ed editorial.
editorial@nytimes.com.
I once got Gail Collins to write me back after I told her that Times Op-Eds dont belong on the front page masquerading as news.
Ms. Sheehan sent out word yesterday that she was going to be arrested as "a threat to national security". This "fact" was duly reported by Daily Kos and DU.
Since I live in Fairfield, California, five miles south of Vacaville, maybe I should camp out in front of Cindy (tax cheat of many years) Sheehan's house once she gets home and make a few demands of my own -- like that she pay her taxes. Looks like, according to another thread, there are liens against her by the Franchise Tax Board, and man, if you think the IRS is bad, California's FTB makes the IRS look like the staff of a Montesorri school.
