Al Franken: Air America Founder 'A Crook'
NewsMax.com ^ | Aug. 9, 2005 | Carl Limbacher

Posted on 08/09/2005 8:11:21 AM PDT by Carl/NewsMax

Liberal yakker Al Franken blasted the man who founded his Air America radio network as "a crook" on Monday - even as he laughed off the financial scandal that continues to dog his broadcast.

After weeks of on-air silence about an $875,000 loan that Air America finagled from a Bronx community group that serves poor kids and Alzheimers patients, Franken was finally forced to discuss the scandal when a caller asked him to explain.

"Here's the deal," the Air America host said. "The first guy who was chairman of the board of Air America - Evan Cohen - was a crook, it turns out. I mean, I guess that's the only way to put it."

Explaining Cohen's role in ripping off the kids' club, Franken suddenly turned giddy.

"He borrowed $875,000," he said, erupting in laughter. "I don't know why they did it and I don't know where the money went."

Franken said he "imagines" that the funds earmarked for childrens' programs were instead "used for operations" at Air America, which was strapped for cash at the time.

"[Cohen] was robbing Peter to pay Paul," he explained.

I still have not gotten an answer on the HBO special they did on the founding of Air America. It never mentioned the loans. Was this fraud? Also, should HBO apologize for the misleading, complete lie they tried to hoist on the viewer.

"Imagine" no paycheck for you or Garbarfalo, idiot.

Doubt he'd be so "giddy" then.

What a sicko.

> A croked enterprise.

I think you meant either "crooked" or "croaked".
Both work :-)

re: the Soros check - if Sith Lord Soros were willing
to piss money away on Air Enron, the current story
(and the earlier bounced-check story) would never
have broken.

I've little doubt that AA's management has dispatched
a grovel team to Soros, and got nothing. AA is going
down, and at least one person is going to jail.

Since Tax Payers' money was stolen, doesn't this warrant an official "investigation"?

Hell, the liberals and the Media are contantly screaming that everything ELSE be investigated.

The founder of the Err America stole money from poor kids. Why did he do it? Why is Err America so strapped for money they need to resort to crime in order to fund their enterprise ? What is it about the network that puts it's in a position to need to steel money from poor kids ?

He also claims he hasn't been payed since 3 weeks into his gig.

Really? I posted too quickly.

It should be interesting then, to see if and how, like you said, he tries to squirm out of any association with the founder.

Do you like salt or butter on you popcorn? :)

When Air America posts modest ratings, the MSM is all over the story saying how great the network is. When Air America rips off nearly a $1 million from a children's charity, the MSM is silent......give me a break you biased bastards.

"[Cohen] was robbing Peter to pay Paul," he explained.

Since when is this an issue with liberals? This is their ideology defined in a nutshell.

I thought if you received stolen property you were guilty of a crime. Why hasn't anyone filed changes against Al baby?

(The fact that the funds were so called 'borrowed', doesn't mean it was a legal transfer does it?)
