It's a start in the right direction, and that's better than heading the other way.
Now, if we can just get drilling in ANWR passed through the budget bill (where it is placed to be filibuster proof), life would be good.

Bush Signs Massive Energy Bill Into Law If I don't start feeling massively energetic right away, it's Bush's fault, right?

Talk about your timing.
In this week's MP3 ,IMAO, a group of political satirists, are poking fun at oil prices, alternative energy sources, and the government bureaucrats that drive up energy costs at:

When he arrived, Bush took a tour of the Energy Department's national solar thermal test facility, which was built in 1976 in response to the oil embargo and energy crisis. Bush walked in a field of mirrored solar panels, wearing shirt sleeves and sunglasses to ward off the bright midday sun.
The last plan built a new building to solve the problem, seems to have worked, did we get any new buildings this time?

Not a bill for today or tomorrow, but for the future.Just exactly when in the future are we talking about. 2010? 2050? 2525? 3007? 4015? When?

"When we expand ethanol" Archer Daniels Midland will take home some more booty... But the energy required to produce ethanol is greater than that which is gleaned from that same ethanol. Ethanol is just more porkpie for contributors. Big achievement. Rah rah.

But for the first time, utilities will be required to comply with federal reliability standards for its electricity grid
Sounds like the FED is going to force the utilities to buy the overpriced subsidized oil.
Looks like $12 billion in corporate welfare to me!

Domenici said he will include a provision authorizing Arctic drilling as part of a budget procedure that is not subject to filibuster. A similar maneuver is being planned in the House, although the final strategy is being worked out. I sure hope this works!

President Bush on Monday signed sweeping legislation that provides billions of dollars in tax subsidies to energy companies, yet does little quickly to ease gas prices or lower America's reliance on foreign oil. Quite an editorial, not much reporting though......

The bill's price tag $12.3 billion over 10 years is twice what the White House had first proposed. It does not include Bush's desire to open the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil exploration. Drilling advocates, however, have a backup plan that is expected to unfold in mid-September. There's always a "backup plan" with these people.

The bill's price tag $12.3 billion over 10 years is twice what the White House had first proposed... the 1,724-page bill...Instead of this porky Bill, if they eliminated 1,724 pages of energy and EPA regulations, I'd bet they wouldn't spend the $12.3 billion and would save at least $12.3 billion more - and add just as much energy.
...but then, there would be no pork for politicians to spread around among their friends.

"President Bush on Monday signed sweeping legislation that provides billions of dollars in tax subsidies to energy companies, yet does little quickly to ease gas prices or lower America's reliance on foreign oil."
Think this article might have been written by a Democrat??? No bias reeking through here - there are lots of features of the energy bill that might have been highlighted in the lede.... yet the reporter thinks its only worthwhile to bemoan that there are no instant solutions. Guess what dumbkopf reporter, that would have been the case with any energy bill at all, but if the Demagogues in Congress had acted 3+ years ago and if ANWR drilling had been authorized 10 years ago and if nuclear plant construction had not been stymied for 25 years then we might be in an improving energy picture by now.....

"If you're in the market for a car, this bill will help you save up to $3,500 on a fuel-efficient hybrid or clean-diesel vehicle," Bush said. My Cummins TD runs clean...but unless we quit selling our diesel to the Chi-Coms and Euro-weenies they will simply cost too much to run regardless..
Tell the EPA to get off the backs of the engine builders and let us have some of those clean burning inline 4 banger turbo diesels..
Dont let the Chi coms and the Euros use what little capacity we have to refine making fuel for them
imo
