As to Wead, most will remember how he recently backstabbed the president to sell a book. Meanwhile, I heard Tom Pauken today talking on a liberal radio program where he badmouthed Bush, Texas Gov. Perry, most Texas republican legislators, the recent Republican appointees to the Texas Supreme Court, the war on terror, the Iraq war, and of course Karl Rove. Compared the current administration and 'scandal' to Nixon's, called for a new dialogue on the war, and promoted Carole Keeton McClellan Rylander Strayhorn's candidacy for TX governor. This from a former head of the Texas Republican Party.
Texas freepers can decide how conservative he remains. He did raise legitimate criticisms of congressional spending, but for the most part had that curious habit of badmouthing pretty much every issue the Dems did, going right down the usual "I'm bitter so I'm anti anything that Bush is for" slate. So is Pauken a still bitter sore loser, or a principled true conservative who is on to something? Fairly obvious which way I lean, but am (slightly) open to persuasion.

What astonishing self-delusion. I doubt that even the
incessant content-free carping by the Legacy Media is
causing anything more than mutual snickering between
Bush and Rove.
If (as is likely) the real target of the grand jury turns
out to be a Dem, people like this writer are going to
have their brains implode.
