Excellent advice as always ExSoldier. One of the reasons I moved further west is to be closer to my safe zone. I'm only a day's hike away from it. There are already supplies prepositioned there.

AD, if you have to "hoof" it in to your hide-site, and the situation has gone super critical you have to take as a given that your site is compromised by somebody who wants what you've got. The best way in, if possible is a route wildly divergent from the one you usually take, in case somebody is waiting (I know, I'm just paranoid) to take you out. Even if it doubles the distance, you're better off doing this and still better if you can do so in inclement weather or darkness or both.
