The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

It's hardly a unique fashion statement for a mass transit rider: a Yankees-style cap, and a "New York" sweat shirt.

But the New York Police Department is teaming with British authorities to determine whether those items were worn by suspects in the London terror cases to send a "purposeful message" to the city, according to an NYPD officials.

David Cohen, the NYPD's deputy commissioner of intelligence, raised the concern earlier this week at a security briefing for business leaders at police headquarters in Lower Manhattan.

COALITION FORCES BOMB TERRORIST SAFE HOUSES

CAMP BLUE DIAMOND, AR RAMADI, Iraq – U.S. Marines have launched precision air strikes on several Al Qaeda in Iraq positions during the past five days. All of the coalition strikes were directed against targets that were confirmed to have armed Al Qaeda in Iraq members present. These terrorists and their safe havens were threats to Coalition Forces operating in the area.

Additionally, Coalition Forces in Husaybah have confirmed that local Iraqis in the Husaybah-Al Qaim region are fighting against Abu Musab Zarqawi in western Al Anbar.

Local sources in the area have reported Al Qaeda in Iraq terrorists killing unarmed male Iraqis who oppose their organization and ideology. Reports further indicate that terrorists have been trying to exert influence and control over the border region. This control would allow them a greater ability to move foreign fighters and weapons across the Iraqi-Syrian border.

Coalition Forces will continue to attack Al Qaeda in Iraq targets and stand committed to fighting the extremist elements who desire to rob Iraqis of their freedom and their ability to choose how to be governed.

There is no reliable information to confirm the number of foreign fighters taking part in this latest violence.

Where in the h@(( are the swat teams or National Guard? What the H@(( is going on that thugs are taking control? Someone pretty high up needs to be making some powerful statements about what happens to those breaking the law in the flood ravaged areas and there should be NO MERCY for them - it it means a bullet to stop them, then thats what needs to be done. This Public Announcement updates information concerning ongoing security concerns and the potential for terrorist actions in the Kyrgyz Republic. U.S. citizens are advised to maintain a high level of vigilance and to take appropriate steps to increase their security awareness. This Public Announcement supersedes the Travel Warning dated March 24, 2005 and expires on October 28, 2005.

According to Kyrgyz law enforcement officials, violent crime and crime focused on foreigners has increased since the change in government in March 2005. The recent fighting in Osh between two groups with ties to political and criminal entities and the assassination of a parliamentarian in Bishkek are two recent troubling examples. In late 2004, individuals threw a grenade into a compound in Osh housing a Western-funded NGO. In June 2005, two British citizens were assaulted in two separate incidents, resulting in the death of one of those citizens.

The potential for terrorist activity remains a concern in Central Asia, as supporters of terrorist groups such as the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (IMU), Al-Qaida, the Islamic Jihad Union, and the Eastern Turkistan Islamic Movement are active in the region. The U.S. Government continues to receive information that indicates that terrorist groups may be planning future attacks, possibly against U.S. interests in the Kyrgyz Republic or elsewhere. A variety of tactics, including the use of suicide bombers, have been employed by terrorists in neighboring Uzbekistan. As a result, the U.S. Embassy in Bishkek continues to maintain a heightened security posture.

U.S. Embassy personnel continue to observe heightened security precautions at work and in places where Westerners congregate, as well as public places, such as markets and bazaars.

Travel by U.S. Government personnel to areas of the Kyrgyz Republic south and west of Osh continues to be restricted due to the history of IMU activity in the area and the presence of land mines in the Batken Oblast region and along the Kyrgyz-Uzbek border. The U.S. Embassy strongly recommends against travel to these areas.

U.S. citizens are advised to maintain a high level of vigilance and to take appropriate steps to increase their security awareness, and are urged to register and update their contact information at the U.S. Embassy in Bishkek. ARTICLE SNIPPET: "An apparent illegal immigrant has been charged with Monday's shooting death of Huntsville police officer Daniel Golden.

Police charged Benito Albarran, 31, with capital murder Monday night, about six hours after Golden was gunned down in the parking lot of a Jordan Lane restaurant. Albarran is in the Madison County Detention Facility on Wheeler Avenue without bond.

Police Chief Rex Reynolds, flanked by police department senior administrators, said at a Tuesday afternoon news conference that he did not know Albarran's occupation."

Yes we went and topped off in western North Carolina, the attendant had just raised the price to 2.99 and was raising it again at 5:00.

On the radio heard that Knoxville, Tn. main disaburation center is out of gas. On Mount Eagle truckers are running out of gas and stopped everywhere.

Atlanta the pipeline that supplies part of the gas to Georgia has been down for 2 days. You can still get gas for 2.99 but some station on the north side are at 6.00. I am so glad we left there it is a madhouse.

Governor was on TV in Atlanta trying to calm the public down.

It's a frightening scenario. I am getting better prepared. I am back up to many cases of water and canned/packaged food.

The scary thing is the roving thugs. I don't live in a very big city and I'm afraid of guns but ALL of my neighbors have them!

Unfortuantely this disaster will also give the terrorists a very good idea of what we can handle and what we can't. So far I have only seen reactionary help. The Coast Guard are the only ones yesterday I saw physically helping people. The police, some of which were in the Walmart helping themselves and another refused to answer Shep Smith's question today about who was going to help the people on the freeway. He just walked away carrying his little video camera. I guess instead of policing he was taking souvenir pictures. Very sad.

News just in from MSNBC, NO Mayor has ordered 1500 police to stop rescue and return to city to stop looting. UGH GRRRRRRR. I say lives are more important now, let the thugs have it. They will probably drown or die from sickness anyway.
